#PaytmIPO
Submitted By: Jay Patel (PGP/24/089)
Background
One97 Communications, the parent firm of Paytm, a digital ecosystem for consumers and
merchants, filed the draft red herring prospectus with regulator Sebi for a Rs 16,600 crore initial
public offering (IPO) on 16th July, which generated considerable buzz on social media. As it was the
second Start-up to opt for IPO after Zomato. The data is collected on 20 th July to avoid any
unnecessary noise so that events surrounding the release can be understood.
In-degree: In the network obtained, Paytm official handle has the highest in-degree which suggests
that there has been increasing mentions about it since they filed for the IPO.

Out-degree: The out-degree value for Paytm in the network is 0 which suggests that it does not
involve itself in replying to the mentions of its people through its official brand handle. One reason
for this could be that since the announcement of IPO people are excited about the IPO and so they
are just expressing their opinions about Paytm which may not require any response from Paytm
twitter handle.
Eigen Vector Centrality: Given that Paytm is an established Brand and has over 1 Million twitter
followers. It is no surprise that it enjoys a high eigen vector centrality which shows how well-
connected Paytm is with other well-connected nodes in the network.

Betweenness Centrality: Paytm and VijayShekhar have very high betweenness centrality (as
compared to other nodes) in the network indicating that Paytm and founder holds a very great
amount of control over the flow of information and narrative in the network.

Closeness Centrality: Paytn has a very low closeness centrality (0.001412) which suggest that the
network is fragmented around various other nodes.
Clustering Coefficient: Paytm has a relatively low clustering coefficient (.007) which suggest that the
alters surrounding the Paytm node are not well connected with each other. High number of
interactions makes the structural-equivalence less dominant as most of the nodes are not connected
to each other.

NOTE: Since small connected cliques have clustering coefficient as 1 which does not yield any
business interest for us. Therefore, I have filtered out the nodes which have Zero indegree and then
compared the Clustering coefficient scores to find the most popular clusters.
