WORKER DIES IN ACCIDENT AT CONSTRUCTION SITE

IN JALAN SULTAN

A 41 year-old construction worker died after his neck was pierced by a reinforcing
bar in an accident at a work site in Jalan Sultan, Singapore on Monday night

( Feb 5 2018 ).

A spokesman for the Ministry of Manpower ( MOM ) told The Straits Times on
Tuesday that they were alerted to the fatal accident at the Citygate development at
371 Beach Road on Monday.

“A worker, who was carrying out concreting works at a building under construction
works at a building under construction, was found with his neck pierced by a rebar
( reinforcing bar ),” said the spokesman. “He was subsequently pronounced dead at
the scene.”

All concreting works within the worksite have been stopped and MOM is currently
investigating the incident.

The Singpore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at 9 pm and
immediately dispatched its vehicles to the location.

“A 41-year-old man was found motionless and was pronounced dead by paramedics
at the scene. Police are investigating the unnatural death,” said the police
spokesman.

A security guard at the work site told ST that a worker had been injured by a steel
bar that injured his neck. There was no collapse, he added.
