Lesson 7
Word of Wisdom Word of
Knowledge The Gift of Faith
In the previous four lessons we have studied the first two groups of spiritual gifts,
(1) ministry gifts, and (2) other ministry gifts. We have seen that the first group of gifts was given to
the leaders of the body of Christ. Therefore, the number of believers who receive these gifts is a
limited group. The second group of gifts is different. Almost every believer can have at least one of
these gifts.
With this lesson we will look at the last group of gifts: the gifts of the Spirit. We will pay
special attention to the fact that each of these gifts is given by the Holy Spirit. We will also note
that none of these gifts are obtained by any human ability or special talent.
We will discover one more thing shortly: the additional power that comes through the baptism in
the Spirit is manifested in the gifts of the Spirit. God wants his power to be manifested through each
of his children. He wants that power to manifest in you. As you learn about these gifts, you will find
that you yourself can be used by the Spirit in the manifestation of these gifts.

WORD OF WISDOM
Objective 1. Explain the phrase “word of wisdom” and state the function and purpose of this gift.
Now we are ready for the study of the gifts of the Spirit. To begin, let's read Paul's
introduction to this topic in 1 Corinthians 12: 1: "I do not want you, brothers, to be ignorant
about spiritual gifts."
As we begin this course we study the great value of knowledge in relation to spiritual gifts. Paul
understood the importance of knowledge. He wanted the believers to come out of their ignorance. . .
“Because I don't want you to be ignorant, brothers. . . (1 Corinthians 10: 1). Five times in his epistles he
repeats the same thing: Romans 1:13, 1 Corinthians 10: 1; 12: 1; 2 Corinthians 1: 8; and 1 Thessalonians
4:13.
Paul knew that true knowledge was necessary in every area. He knew that it would give the
gifts greater meaning and effectiveness, as God intended.

Believers can have gifts without much knowledge, as in the case of the Corinthians:. . . that
you lack nothing in any gift. . . " (1 Corinthians 1: 7). However, for gifts to be useful, they must
be based on true knowledge.
As we study these gifts, we will investigate clear Bible-based knowledge for each of them.
We wish to understand them well. We not only want to know about these gifts,
Word of wisdom, word of knowledge, the gift of faith 121
but also see them in operation. We must pray for the Holy Spirit to open our minds to a broader
understanding.
Definition of the word of wisdom.
“For to him is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom. . . " (1 Corinthians 12: 8). Wisdom is good
judgment based on knowledge. TheWord of wisdom, So it is a word of good judgment based on
knowledge. But the gift encompasses much more.
The term word It's the key. It is derived from the Greek termlogos. Logosmeans "the matter of,
the subject of, the essence of." Since the gifts of the Spirit are strictly from the Spirit of God, we
understand that the word of wisdom is an expression of God. It is not just an expression of wisdom.
The wisdom the author refers to in this verse comes directly from God. It is His wisdom.
Therefore, through the gift of the word of wisdom, the Holy Spirit gives the believer a little of
divine wisdom.
The expression "word of wisdom" refers to a small portion. It also apparently refers to
a special type of wisdom for a particular need. We could say that it is a bit of God's wisdom
expressed at the right time.
1 The word of wisdom is
a) a little of God's wisdom expressed at the right time.
b) a gift that makes a person know from the moment they receive it.
c) natural wisdom inspired by the Holy Spirit.
In a sense every believer has the opportunity to be used in the manifestation of each
gift. Let me explain. All gifts arein the Spirit. Now, if the Spirit is in the believer, so are his
gifts. However, the decision of which gift or gifts the Spirit manifests through the believer
is entirely at their discretion.

The gifts of the Spirit reside in the Holy Spirit. They are manifested by the Spirit through the believer;
hence it is said that they are given to the believer.
A very clear example of the word of wisdom is found in Acts 15: 5-27. The early church
faced a very serious problem. These were the newly converted Gentiles. To try to solve the
problem, the church leaders met with other believers. They talked a lot about the problem.
Some had one idea, others had another. Finally, Jacobo, one of the leaders, spoke. After their
discussion, “it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church. . . "
5. The word of wisdom led the whole group to a decision (verse 22).
These verses highlight the idea that the word of wisdom was given by the Holy Spirit. The word of
wisdom neededattain to the people. The Holy Spirit was in James and through him he manifested the
word of wisdom to the church. Therefore, the church received the gift of the word of wisdom.

3 Read Acts 6: 1-7. Which verse would you say refers to the word of wisdom?

2. How does the word of wisdom work? Does it demand deep reasoning? How does he know
Believer, by whom the Holy Spirit gives the word of wisdom, what should he say?
These questions can best be answered by those who have been through this experience. Donald Gee,
an English Pentecostal teacher said:
“In a manifestation of the word of wisdom something is sensed. It is a sense of the divine (that is,
God), the consciousness of a manifestation that transcends (that is, from on high) all. . . reserves
of. . . human experience. You are very aware of that. . . what had to be said has been said ”.
The word of wisdom can be directed by the Holy Spirit directly to the heart of man. In this case, the
man would in turn communicate it to the body (see Ephesians 1: 17-19).
Paul addressed the word of wisdom to the Corinthians. But before he did, the Holy Spirit had
already communicated it directly to his heart (read 1 Corinthians 2: 5-15).

3. When is the word of wisdom manifested? We can't make a list of all the times
when it manifests. Circumstances often determine when it is needed. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit
can manifest the gift only when a believer is spiritually prepared and willing to be used. "Therefore,
having different gifts, according to the grace that is given to us ... let it be used according to the
measure of faith" (Romans 12: 6). Studying the circumstances under which this gift manifested itself
in the early church will help us understand it.

In studying the purpose of the gifts of the Spirit, one must remember a simple rule, "Let everything be done
for edification."
Edification means "to build" or to build, to stimulate. Therefore, we can say that thepurpose of the
word of wisdom consists in edifying the body of Christ. This edification takes place whether the word
of wisdom is addressed to a member, a small group, or a crowd.
This gift is never given by the Holy Spirit to make someone feel better or more spiritual than other
believers. It is a special privilege to be used by the Holy Spirit.

KNOWLEDGE WORD
Objective 2. Describe the function and purpose of the knowledge word.
Objective 3. Know how to distinguish when one has received a word of knowledge.
Science means knowledge, "to know." As we said in the study of the word of wisdom, the term
word is derived from the Greek term logos. Logosmeans "the matter of, the subject of, the essence
of." The word of knowledge, therefore, is an expression of knowledge. But from whose knowledge?
Let us remember again that all the gifts of the Spirit are said to be of the Spirit or by the
Spirit. The word of knowledge is given by the same spirit who gave the word of wisdom, the
Holy Spirit.
Since the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, he has access to all the vast treasures of
knowledge. A Latin word describes how much knowledge God has. It's the wordomniscient. This in turn is
derived from two terms: Omni, which means "everything," and scient, which means "knowledge," "to
know." When joining the terms, the word remains
compound meaning "all knowledge." Therefore, we say that God knows everything.
Through the word of knowledge the Holy Spirit enables the believer to express a little of the
unlimited knowledge of God. In other words, God makes the believer say what he does not know
by the use of his own abilities. The Holy Spirit gives you the word to express. That word becomes
known as the gift of knowledge to the believer or to the body. It is a gift for the body, because
the interests of the body are involved, even when it is addressed to an unsaved person.

Spirit.
8 Read John 4: 7-19. In what verses did the Lord express the word of knowledge?
....................................................................................................... Bad men and the word of
knowledge.
Sometimes bad men, like sorcerers, apparently have the power to know things in strange
ways. Do they have the word of knowledge? No. However, it is true that they obtain
knowledge in an extraordinary way. But how?
It is necessary to remember that there is not only a Holy Spirit, but there are also spirits
unclean. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Unclean spirits come from the evil one,
Satan.
Satan knows many things that evil men do not know in their own capacity. But Satan is not like God. He
is not omniscient, he does not know everything. Just knowsome things.

For example, there was a man in the town of Gadara who was possessed by many demons (evil
spirits). When Christ approached him, the demoniac began to shout: “What have you got with me,
Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Please do not torment me ”(Luke 8:28).
How did man know who Jesus Christ was? How did you know of the Lord's power to torment you? He
knew it from the demons (unclean spirits) that he had in him. This knowledge did not come from God.
How can we be sure that the word of knowledge with which we can speak comes
from the Spirit
Holy? Is the fear that we might be able to speak through an unclean spirit justified?
No. The believer should not fear such a thing. If we are filled with the Spirit of God there is
no place in our being for evil spirits. They have no part or luck in us, “for greater is He that is
in you than he that is in the world” (that is, the world of the wicked, 1 John 4: 4).

.... c Believers need to be concerned that they can speak out of an evil spirit.
.... d Evil spirits are stronger than the Holy Spirit.
.... and The Spirit of God does not admit the presence of evil spirits.
The human spirit and the word of knowledge
The word of knowledge is more than just human thoughts. Sometimes people don't understand
the difference. They imagine something and think it is a word of knowledge. Our mind can deceive
us.
I remember an incident that illustrates this point. One afternoon, in a prayer meeting held in a
house, the believers began to feel the need to obtain a musical instrument to accompany the songs.
By coincidence, they had exactly the musical instrument they needed at home. One of the group
members, believing that he had received a word of knowledge from the Lord, immediately asked the
owner of the house to give the group the musical instrument as a gift.
The owner of the house could not understand that message. She replied to the member of the group
that this instrument did not belong to her, that it was loaned. That man had no word of knowledge, but
his own ideas.
How can we be sure that we receive a word of knowledge? Here are some simple
tests that you can apply to each situation.

gifts?

Objective 4. Explain the function and purpose of the gift of faith. Objective 5. Tell how you can tell if you have
the gift of faith.
Definition of faith
Generally speaking, faith is the ability to believe. If a person has faith, it is said that he believes.
But the gift of faith is something that goes beyond ordinary faith. which all believers possess. It's a
faithspecial. It is faith given by the Holy Spirit to meet a particular need. We can say that it is a small
part of the perfect faith of God, given by the Holy Spirit to a person.
special moment, for a particular need. The gift is given. The need is supplied. The gift has
served its purpose.
12 Write one C before each TRUE statement, and a I before each INCORRECT

.... to Every believer can receive the gift of faith.
.... b Through the gift of faith the believer is given faith of a special kind.
.... c Because every Spirit-filled believer has the Holy Spirit, they may receive the
gift of faith.
Faith is always based on knowledge. This truth explains why our faith can be
small. If we have little knowledge, our faith will be very little.
God can give the gift of faith, since He has perfect faith. He has that kind of faith because he knows
everything. Your knowledge is perfect. Through the gift of faith, a little of God's perfect faith is given to
meet some particular need.

In reality, God's faith was able to say to the lame man: “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and

3. We know that Peter actually had the gift of faith so he occurred the lame! "And at the moment
His feet and ankles were strengthened, and he leaped to his feet and walked ”(Acts 3: 7-8). Your problem
was solved.
Even today the Holy Spirit wants to do that. Desires to give believers the faith of God
special for the great
difficult needs and problems. He undoubtedly needs believers like Peter who dare to act
when He puts faith in their hearts. Believers are often afraid to act, so faith cannot operate.
How do we know that we have the gift of faith? For our inner man, our spirit. The wordfaith in a
sense it means "persuasion." When the Holy Spirit gives us a little of God's perfect faith, we are
overwhelmed by a deep persuasion that God will do something. The believer who receives this
persuasion not only expects God to do something, knows that it will.
