physiology of mammals and poultry. The cats and other fresh or preserved
specimens will be used as a model for domestic mammalian anatomy in this course.
2. The students will become familiar with the components of skeletal models of several
species of domestic and wild animals and birds.
3. The students will examine comparative differences in the anatomy and physiology of
different species of domestic animals and poultry.
4. The students will study the relationship of the different anatomic systems to disease
processes.
ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT:
Academic Misconduct: In accordance with the Academic Honor Code, students will pledge the following: “Being a

LAB SAFETY CONTRACT
I recognize that an uninformed, unprepared, or merely careless and inconsiderate student in the laboratory hinders the learning process and is
a real danger not only to themselves, but to all others as well. In consideration of the safety and expeditious education of my classmates, I
agree to abide by all the following regulations, designed to minimize the hazards inherent in laboratory work.
1. Close-toed shoes (not sandals) will be worn at all times in the laboratory, regardless of what is being done.
2. Know beforehand the hazardous characteristics of the chemicals with which you will be working with. MSDS (material safety data sheet)
for each chemical used in this laboratory is available in the designated location (by the sink nearest to the door).
3. No dissection may be performed unless the required study preparation has been completed.
4. The locations of safety equipment (fire extinguisher, first aid kit, eye-wash kit, etc.) and their operation will be learned and committed to
memory before any laboratory work is undertaken.
5. Proper techniques will be observed for routine laboratory operations. If unaware of proper techniques, it is the student’s responsibility to
ask the lab instructor for specific instructions.
6. No eating, drinking, smoking, or any use of tobacco products is permitted in the laboratory at any time.
7. Reports of cuts, burns, nausea or light-headedness, falls, etc. will be made immediately to the instructor.
8. Laboratory bench tops, dissection trays, lockers, cubbies, will be kept orderly at all times, and those responsible for spillage will clean up
immediately.
9. The student is to be aware that the wearing of shorts, short skirts, leggings/stockings, open-toed shoes, sandals, or shoes made of woven
material in the laboratory is a serious hazard due to potential spillage and are not to be worn in lab.
10. Students are required to wear the specified gray-colored long sleeved lab coats (knee length) – available in the student book-store. Arms
and legs should be covered. Students are not allowed to roll up laboratory coat sleeves. Students and technical assistants are required to
wear proper footwear, and a buttoned, closed, long-sleeved laboratory jacket AT ALL TIMES when working with specimens. This policy
includes weekend and after hours use of the laboratory.
11. Student and TA hair should be secured and pulled back away from the face and front side. This policy includes bangs and ponytails —hair
should be directed posteriorly and not forward toward the specimen.
12. It is the policy of the Louisiana Tech University SASF Program that the use by students of cell phones, PDAs, ipads, or similar devices
during a scheduled laboratory is prohibited. All such devices must be turned off or put in a silent (vibrate) mode and ordinarily should not be
taken out during lab. Use of cell phone cameras to assist with student documentation of anatomy specimen identification is approved,
however, student must use proper hygiene when using phone for this purpose and must clean cell phones with disinfectant wipes after each
use. Given the fact that cell phones are an integral part of the University’s emergency notification system, an exception to this policy would
occur when numerous devices activate simultaneously. When this occurs, students may consult their devices to determine if a university
emergency exists. If that is not the case, the devices should be immediately returned to silent mode and put away. Use of cell phone for
texting during a scheduled laboratory is prohibited.
13. Students will wear a mask appropriately at all times and stay 6 ft distanced while in lab.
14. Students will wipe down their seat and bench-top with provided disinfectant wipes/towels before and after the lab period.
The penalties for violation of the Safety Agreement in a given lab period are as follows:
First Violation during a lab period: Warning.
Second Violation during a lab period: Dismissal from that lab period with a grade of zero for that lab’s experiment.
I have read, understood, and accept the foregoing as requirements of the course, realizing that failure to adhere strictly to
these precautions is sufficient reason for expulsion from the laboratory.
