Cassia Bluetooth Gateway Troubleshooting

Released: April 14, 2021 Rev.: 1 Issued by: Alexander Tanzer

This trouble shooting protocol is to be applied as a second step of troubleshooting if a sensor

cannot connect to a Cassia Bluetooth gateway. Before applying this protocol make sure that
the used Metris Vibe sensor is working as expected according to the Metris Vibe Sensor
Troubleshooting protocol.

Note: Andritz Automation does not guarantee for a properly working preventive maintenance system
that was not acquired directly via Andritz Automation!

For troubleshooting closely follow the subsequent steps:

1. Run through the Metris Vibe Sensor Troubleshooting protocol to test if the sensor is
working as expected. Only if this step has been accomplished and the result is a
sensor that is working as expected, carry on with this Cassia Bluetooth Gateway
Troubleshooting procedure.
2. If the sensor was successfully connected to a Cassia Bluetooth gateway and data
were transmitted multiple times in a row before, continue with step 4.
3. If requirements in step 2 are not met and the sensor cannot be seen continuously by
a Cassia Bluetooth gateway when mounted in its current location, reduce the distance
between sensor and Cassia Bluetooth gateway to max. 5m, make sure to have a
direct line of sight between the sensor and Cassia Bluetooth gateway and orient the
sensor with the Metris logo towards the Cassia Bluetooth gateway. I.e., temporarily
either unmount the sensor or alter the position of the Cassia Bluetooth gateway. If this
enables establishing a connection between the sensor and the Cassia Bluetooth
gateway, the sensor mounting position or the mounting position of the Cassia
Bluetooth gateway needs to be changed permanently, as the Bluetooth range causes
the lacking connection. Large distances between sensor and Cassia Bluetooth
gateway, obstacles in the line of sight between sensor and Cassia Bluetooth gateway
and heavy traffic in the 2.4 GHz band cause poor connections and must be avoided.
In case of doubt, increase the number of Cassia Bluetooth gateways.
4. If the previous steps did not lead to a successful connection, check if the Cassia
Bluetooth gateway manages to connect to another Metris Vibe sensor (if successful
continue with step 6). If the Cassia Bluetooth gateway does not manage to connect to
another sensor, restart the Cassia Bluetooth gateway (i.e., power cycle).
5. Enter the address of the Cassia Bluetooth gateway in a web browser. If you get a
login screen, network connection is ok. If unsuccessful, check and adapt the settings
of your network and try again until the Cassia Bluetooth gateway can be reached.
Another action to take is running a WiFi channel tracker to monitor traffic in the WiFi
channels on site. It is mandatory to choose a WiFi channel with sufficiently remaining
bandwidth for communication with the Cassia Bluetooth gateway.
6. Retry to scan for sensors. If the sensor still cannot be found, contact Andritz
Automation.
