Statement showing problem exists.

Mental health is a significant determinant of a person’s life satisfaction and quality.

When a person has poor mental health, they experience common and complex psychological

challenges that undergraduate students face in developing nations.

Evidence

A BDI survey that was carried out in Spain, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, and United

Kingdom showed that 8.6% of the general population is dealing with depression.

Statement showing that it is a significant problem

If the mental health problem is not treated, it can cause distress to the college students

and affect them negatively where their academic performance and lives start to lose purpose. If

the situation prolongs, a student can even commit suicide.

Evidence

A longitudinal study conducted in New Zealand for over 25 years shows that people aged

between the ages of 16 to 21 and are depressed tend to increase the rate of welfare dependence

and unemployment in the long run.
