INTRODUCTION

Free software allows us to use different tools in our institutions without the need to pay
licenses, as well as the continuation of the design of activities at home, since the applications
can be downloaded without any problem from the owner's website without falling into
fraudulent installations or piracy.

In the mid-1980s, the idea of getting out of the dependence on proprietary software and license
payments arose. Richard Stallman, from the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, reflected on the subject and in 1986 published the GNU
manifesto, which started a project aimed at building a free and free operating system that could
be copied and modified by anyone who wanted to do so (guaranteed by access to the source
code).

Since then, a lot of free software has been created that allows both novice and experienced
users to work; in the educational field, Ardora is a software designed for teachers to create
educational material with the possibility of creating more than 45 activities incorporating
different multimedia formats such as image, sound, video, where the teacher focuses the
attention and effort on the design of the activity and not on background computer concepts
which are transparent for their work.

ARDORA

Ardora is a computer application for


teachers, which allows them to create
their own web content, in a very
simple way, without any technical
knowledge of web design or programming.

With Ardora you can create more than 35 different types of activities, crosswords, wordsearch
puzzles, wordsearch puzzles, fill in, graphic panels, symmetries, diagrams, etc., more than 10
different types of multimedia pages: galleries, panoramas or zooms of images, mp3 or mp4
players, etc. "server pages", annotations and collective album, timelines, posters, chat, poster,
comment system and file manager, mainly designed for collaborative work among students, as
well as utilities that allow the joint presentation of various contents such as activity packs, web
spaces or virtual desktops (desktop).

B. FEATURES:
• Totally free, as long as it is used in a personal way, without lucrative character and
with strictly educational purposes.
• In this version 6 has been added the possibility of formatting the text of the
statements in each of the different types of activities and pages that Ardora creates.
• The packaging under the SCORM standard has been improved and its functionalities
have been extended, offering now different possibilities to the teacher at the moment
of the evaluation, it is very advisable to consult the manual on this subject in the help
section.
• The activity packages have been redesigned internally (code) allowing now the
possibility of including a very detailed self-evaluation system as well as the export of
these packages to SCORM.
• A new group Server-side pages has been started, whose main objective is the
creation of different types of places where students can collectively intervene.
• These server pages are designed to be placed on a web server that only has to have
PHP installed, it does not use a database.
• Ardora creates a folder with all the necessary content for its operation that the author
must copy to his web server.
• Ardora is multilingual, you do not need to install any additional file to change the
language, just choose your language in the "Language" menu.

C. ADVANTAGES:
• Available in several languages and dialects.
• Has a portable version.
• Easy to use.
• Possibility to publish the exercises in a network.
• Wide variety of exercises.

• Allows exporting to HTML and SCORM formats.

D. DISADVANTAGES:
• Tool that when downloaded can affect the computer with viruses.
• Requires the installation of Java.

E. TYPES OF CONTENTS:
1. ACTIVITY WITH
GRAPHICS: Activity that
allows to identify the different
parts of an image as well as to
distinguish and differentiate parts
of a whole. To build or elaborate
this activity it is convenient to
create a work folder where the
graphics to be used in GIF or
JPEG format are located. File/ New activity/Activity with graphic/Graphic panel.

2. PUZZLE ACTIVITY: This activity allows


you to create puzzles from a previously
selected image. File menu/New
activity/Activity with graphic/Puzzle.

3. COLORING ACTIVITY: This activity


differentiates the parts of an image, you can
determine zones within the image, for example to
color maps of cities, departments or countries.

4. WORD GAMES ACTIVITY: They are used to


elaborate word search activities and crossword
puzzles. For the elaboration of the word search:
File menu/New activity/Word game/letter search.

5. ACTIVITY OF RELATING:
Relating Words: Allows to relate,
to associate concepts or terms, for
example: Associating, Antonyms,
synonyms, equivalences, etc. For
the elaboration go to Menu file/New activity/Relate/Words.

6. ACTIVITY TO COMPLETE
WORDS WITH SYLABES:
This activity allows to reinforce
the knowledge about spelling
rules, for example B or V terms
such as bra – bar.

F. BENEFITS:
• Motivation for students thanks to the realization of playful and enjoyable activities,
both in the classroom and at home.
• It allows to complete the teacher's explanations through the realization of activities
that stimulate the work, both individual and group, inside the classroom.
• It incorporates for the teacher an active methodology and a greater involvement of
the students in the acquisition of the conceptual contents, favoring the process of
self-evaluation of concepts.
• Flexibility when performing practices, since the student can choose between different
types of activities reinforcement of concepts and contents in a playful and
participatory way.

G. IMPORTANCE: The main usefulness of this program in education in general and in


Special Education in particular, resides in its ability to generate totally open activities,
where it is the teacher who defines the objectives and strategies to be used in each case.
Taking into account the particular importance of personalization in the field of education
for people with Special Needs, the fact that the program delegates pedagogical
responsibility, precisely to the teacher, forms an excellent platform to support this
teaching.

Several of the types of Ardora activities are particularly useful for people with certain
Special Needs. If the student cannot access the computer through the standard keyboard or
mouse, emulator programs such as MPB can be used to move the mouse pointer or
Kanghooru to mark scan points. These programs work seamlessly in conjunction with
Ardora.

Through activities such as Puzzles, it is possible to work on important aspects related to the
specialty, among others. A whole series of activities include the use of text (Crosswords,
Word searches, Completing texts, among others), allowing the work of reading and writing
at different levels. Those users with visual impairment or blindness who use the computer
through a screen reader will be able to take advantage of Ardora activities, since they open
as a simple Web page and the text of many of them will be correctly synthesized by this
type of program.

CONCLUSIONS:

• After reviewing the tool and having created several activities, the main conclusion we
draw, is that it is an easy, accessible, intuitive and very useful tool for teachers.

• The activities created by the tool can have a double purpose. On the one hand, it
provides the necessary tools to create activities of all kinds: geometry, calculus, word
games... and on the other hand, it is a good way to introduce children to the world of
computers and the Internet.

• As for the technical knowledge of teachers, it is so simple that it should be basic. The
generation of web pages is done at the click of a button and no knowledge of html is
necessary.

• The advantage of generating web pages is to provide another medium (internet) to the
teachers to complement some of their lessons.

• It is true that it is easy and that it does not require much technical knowledge, but care
must be taken since it is necessary to follow the steps to save the activities and if they
were to be modified, the html would have to be generated again, for example.

• Some of the advantages that it brings to the teaching activity is the option of some
activities to the activity by itself, making it easier to create randomly for example
quantities or numbers. For example quantities or numbers.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Implement this digital educational resource in the population in a minimum time of 6


months, and in this way, check if the competencies in the area of English are strengthened.

• It is necessary to publish the digital educational resource to provide children with access.

• When an intervention is going to be carried out with this digital educational resource, it is
necessary to remember that it is directed, due to its level of pedagogical complexity and
because it is designed under basic standards and curricular guidelines for the first cycle of
education.

• It is also important to clarify that it is not possible to standardize the competencies of the
children, because the competencies are indefinite and unlimited, therefore, this digital
educational resource that is proposed is modifiable, since the virtual tool Ardora allows
adjusting the pedagogical activities, which means that the teacher can adjust the activities
according to the characteristics, interests, needs, interests and needs of the children.

• The teacher can adjust the activities according to the characteristics, interests, needs or
potentialities of the population in order to strengthen the competencies in the area of English.
