STATIONARY CO2, SALINITY and TGP PROBES

CO2 PROBES
Use
The probe must be powered when it is in water. Rinse it and wipe it dry if you remove it from
the water – you do not have to disconnect it.
Regular Care
Once every month or as needed
Clean the probe, wipe the membrane. Wash in household detergent if necessary.
Once every three months or longer
Calibrate the probe.

Fault-finding
No measurement
Check connections and cables. If the probe has been placed in water containing ozone or has
been switched off when in the water please return it to OxyGuard for check.
Doubt as to accuracy
A correctly calibrated OxyGuard CO2 probe measures the free dissolved (gaseous) CO2
accurately. You can verify calibration by placing the probe in about 100 ml of the distilled
water used during calibration and noting the reading when it has stabilised. Then lift the probe
up and add a measuring spoonful (about 0.3 gram) of pH conditioner. Stir and then replace the
probe. If the measurement remains the same the distilled water is OK and the calibration is
accurate. If it changes you should obtain some purer distilled water and re-calibrate. If you
check with a CO2 portable make sure that its battery is fully charged when you calibrate it.

SALINITY PROBES
Use
Place salinity probes in free water, away from tank walls, metal objects, pumps and motors. It
uses a magnetic field to measure, and needs a free, undisturbed space to measure in.
Regular Care
Keep the probe reasonably clean, especially the measuring hole.
Fault-Finding
If you suspect that the probe does not measure correctly you can check it against a portable
instrument. If there are problems check cables and connections. The probe is calibrated for
sea water, in a pure salt (sodium chloride) solution it will show a value 6% lower than the
actual salt content (by weight).

TGP PROBES
Use
Place 20 to 30 cm under the surface in water where there is a DO measurement in order to
obtain full functionality from the TGP measurement.
Regular Care
Lift the probe into the air and check that the measurement value, when it has stabilised, is
100%. Calibrate if needed. Keep the probe reasonably clean. It can be cleaned in soapy water
if necessary. Use a very soft brush. Replace the sensor element if needed.
Fault-finding
Check cables and connections. Carefully inspect the sensor element. If there is any sign of
damage replace it. Performing a calibration should reveal if there are problems.
