E-mail is cheaper than normal mail and even if you send your message |_2 it only costs the same as a local telephone call. This is because your message goes to computer called a mail server and then it is|_ 3 across the Net via other mail servers to its destination. E-mail is also much quicker and can arrive at most destinations in a minute. In fact, ordinary mail is so slow by comparison that Net users call it ’snail mail’. With e-mail you also have to know someone’s address and everyone on the Net has their own |_ 4 e-mail address. An e-mail address has two main sections: the user’s name and the domain name. The user’s name is usually the name or nickname of the person using e-mail, for example, *Paul’. There are lots more people working on short and fixed term 2 , instead of full-time, permanent ones. Some people choose to get temporary jobs through an employment agency. This means that they work for different companies for aset| 3 of time. Other people work on a freelance basis, meaning that they work for themselves, but take on short-term contracts for companies. Freelancers often have a great deal of experience in a specialized] 4 | . The workforce is now more skilled and qualified than ever. With employers having a larger group of candidates to choose from, it can be hard to get into work if you cannot show that you have certain qualifications or skills. Jlexcuka 117 Sadanue 4 Producing fresh drinking water from sea-water normally requires lots of energy. This means that the water costs more to produce and that more pollution is produced|_1 COz emissions. Recently, however, it has become possible to| 2 sea-water into drinking water onasmall| 3 using renewable energy. These systems are very useful in helping to provide drinking water in dry, rural areas. A German organization has developed a method using solar energy. Solar panels provide the energy to heat sea-water. When the water | 4 to steam, it passes through a membrane. The membrane allows the steam to pass, but it doesn’t let the salt through. On|_5 side of the membrane, the steam cools and becomes clean water. This small system can produce about | 20 litres of drinking water a day. In Holland scientists have developed a different method using wind Le | . As the arms of a windmill turn, they provide energy to power a pump. The pump forces salt water through a membrane. The membrane lets the water pass but not the salt. No electricity is needed for this process. The energy provided is purely mechanical. Using this method, it is possible to create a reservoir of water. In this way, there is always a|_7 of drinking water even when there is no wind. The system can produce enough fresh water for the daily needs of about 500 people. 1_| 1) without 2) with 3) through 4) though 2 _| 1) transport 2) deliver 3) convey 4) transform 3 | 1)scale 2) height 3) weight 4) measure 4 | 1) turns 2) switches 3) tries 4) strives 5 _| 1) another 2) one more 3) others 4) the other 6 | 1) powder 2) power 3) direction 4) destination 7_| 1)system 2) supply 3) support 4) subway
