How can you apply the Concept of Management and Leadership
in Course Management as Training Staff?
Management and leadership do share many similar duties which consist of
working with people and influencing others to achieve goals. Management skills are used to plan, build, and direct organizational systems to accomplish missions and goals, while leadership skills are used to focus on a potential change by establishing direction, aligning people, motivating and inspiring. Leadership and management must go hand in hand. They are not the same thing. But they are necessarily linked, and complementary. Any effort to separate the two is likely to cause more problems than it solves. Therefore, these two must go together in order to deliver good services.
As training staff, we should apply the concept of management and leadership in
course management. We should possess management and leadership skills as mentioned above. But first we must considered some simple characteristics that we need to possess as training staff: First, Initiates action-we should not only wait for the task to be given but we need to initiate work. This begins when clearly communicating our plans and without the initiation of the work, no goals can be achieved. Second, Motivation-in order for the work to be completed on time and to a high standard, motivation is required and that comes from leadership. By effectively motivating others, the work will be carried out smoothly and happily. Third, Guidance-as new training staff we should always seek the guidance of our leaders in order to perform work both efficiently and effectively and in the same ways if the trainers need our guidance we need also to provide them helpful guidance. Fourth, Confidence-since we are just new we really need to develop this because we cannot train well others if we don’t possess this characteristic and we won’t complete all the tasks if we lack this. Last, Building moral-which once again comes from leadership in order to achieve the full cooperation of the other staffs and trainees. We should strive to be good training staff by applying those important characteristics as mentioned above and by possessing those important management and leadership skills. Our journey as training staff will be very difficult if we cannot embrace those characteristics. It is only when we are armed with these characteristics as well as the management and leadership skills that we can work together in harmony as teams and indeed we can successfully train others.
