Research Topic: Heritage Architecture of Chittagong and its Landscape.

The Landscape of Chittagong is very diverse and comprises of water, hill

tracts, coastal forest and so on. The landscape and topographical diversity also
have impact on the architecture existing on the particular landscape. The
Heritage architecture of Chittagong shows the relation between architecture
and landscape in a very exciting manner. This research paper tends to find the
relation between architecture and landscape of Chittagong through evaluating
heritage buildings.

Work Plan:

As the research paper comprises the study of landscape and architecture of

Chittagong, detailed study of the landscape of Chittagong will be done and the
evaluation of the architecture and the impact of landscape on its derivation
and spatial organization will be conducted. To do so one specific or few
heritage buildings will be selected. Research Methodology, study Area
methods and materials –

 mixed-method approach

 primary and secondary data

 examining historic evidence and old newspaper articles

  pinpointing selected structures through mapping satellite images and
GIS data collected from the planning division of the Chittagong
Development Authority (CDA)

 Conzen approach- an urban morphological coding-based analytical tool

that can be applied to the conservation of urban history

 review of scientific articles

 field observation

Preliminary findings:

The urban waterfront heritage through a   case study of Chittagong has been
explored. The study shows the relation of water front with the urban
morphology and spatial organization of built heritage. The   study   argues  
that physical   and   spatial   components   of urban structure and water
landscape, incorporating the lessons of urban history, could   become   a   tool  
to   preserve   urban   heritage. Some illustrations of the study are shown
