1. Derive the Euler’s equation for steady flow along a stream. [5]
OR
Define the equation of continuity. Obtain an expression for the continuity equation for a
three dimensional flow
2. Distinguish between an orifice, a notch and a weir. [3]
3. Define velocity of approach. Derive an equation for the discharge over a rectangular weir
taking velocity of approach. [5]
4. A pipe 200m long slopes down 1 in 100 and tapers from 400 mm diameter at higher end to
200mm diameter at the lower end, and carries 100 liters/sec of oil (Sp. Gravity 0.8). If the
pressure gauge at the higher end reads 60 kN/m2, determine [4]
i. Velocities at the two ends
ii. Pressure at the lower end
Neglect all losses
5. A horizontal Venturimeter with inlet and throat diameters 20 cm and 10 cm respectively is
used to measure the flow of water. The reading of differential manometer corrected to the
inlet and the throat is 20 cm of mercury. Determine the rate of flow. Take Cd = 0.98 [3]
