TB Gold (Quantiferon) / Gamma Interferon Negative IU/mL Negative: <= 0.35

for TB Positive: > 0.35
(Whole Blood/Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay)
INTERPRETATION: Interpretation of results : The cut-off of the Quantiferon TB Gold In-Tube test is 0.35 IU/mL above the Nil control (and
TB Antigen minus Nil is >=25 % of the Nil control) for the TB Antigen stimulated plasma sample.
Individuals displaying a response to the TB Antigen above this cut-off are likely to be infected with M.tuberculosis.
The magnitude of the measured IFN-? level cannot be correlated to stage or degree of infection, level of immune responsiveness, or likelihood
for progression to active disease. A positive Quantiferon TB Gold In-Tube test result does not necessarily indicate the presence of active
tuberculosis disease.
Other medical and diagnostic procedures such as Chest X-ray examination, microbiological examination of sputum, should be used when TB
disease is suspected.
Note : Quantiferon TB Gold is a test for Cell Mediated Immune (CMI) responses to peptide antigens that simulate mycobacterial proteins.
Individual infected with MTB complex organisms usually have lymphocytes in their blood that recognize these peptide antigens, which results
in generation and secretion of IFN-? level (CMI). The detection and subsequent quantification of IFN-? level forms the basis of this test.
Remark: Test done at Ampath lab.
