SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN

Expected Graduation: May 2020
“When I grow up, I want to be an architect, just like my dad”. While
many struggle to find a suitable career path, my passion has always
been for the world of design and creativity. From the moment I could
walk, I visited construction sites with my father. Needless to say that I
find extreme satisfaction in seeing the imaginative come to life through
collaborative work.

The confidence I had when electing Interior Design as a profession is

also prevalent in my decision making and design process. My thirst
for knowledge and constant desire for improvement have profoundly
contributed to my capacities as a designer. Nonetheless, I believe
that my roots and upbringing are what shape the basis of my work.
Growing up in Haiti, I was immersed in a culturally rich environment
with a meaningful and poignant history. As the most needful country of
the Western Hemisphere, I have also been humbled by the significant
contrast between its beauty and poverty.

While I owe my discipline, determination and ease of expression to a

decade of constant ballet practice, I also take pride in honing strengths
outside of the creative field. During my internship at GHESKIO, a
treatment center for HIV/AIDS, I was in direct contact with the poorest
of the poor. I learned first-hand about their terrible living conditions
and illnesses. Through communication and compassion, however, I was
able to uncover the courage and resilience behind their sorrow. This
experience has all the more heightened my understanding of human
nature, a quality that is imperative in the design industry. I believe that
the built environment should be inclusive and speak to the needs of
every human being with close consideration of the mind and the body.

As stated by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), “design

impacts lives”. By combining my multiple skill sets and my fervor
for interiors, I am convinced I will find solutions that will ameliorate
the quality of life and wellbeing of individuals. With environmentally
sustainable practices in mind, I hope to someday return to my country
of birth and establish the first official Haitian Interior Design firm. To
obtain the recognition of ASID in this competition would bring me one
step closer to setting these dreams in motion.

Conceived by Ian Schrager in a partnership with Marriott
International, Edition is a luxury hotel brand that appeals to
all generations. The making of each Edition Hotel involves
distinct designers that work to create unforseen spaces
which speak to the culture of the respective cities. The
brand is associated with simplicity, warmth, grace and purity.

DISRUPTED SYMMETRY
This design will act as an extension of the Nile River and
the city of Cairo. Circular and rectilinear forms will reflect
the strong geometric patterns of Islamic Architecture while
allowing for modern elements to coincide. With a purified
and sophisticated aesthetic, this urban hotel will be a
hub for both tourists and locals. Taking advantage of its
multigenerational platform, the space will serve as a safe
and luxurious haven for hotel guests.

Little Stories is a children’s footwear company owned by two
partners in Valencia, Spain. Their goal is to create unique
experiences with three clear values in mind: play, simplicity
and adaptability. Cartoonish lines and primary colors are
characteristic of their branding story which encourages
curved forms and arched openings.

PLAYFUL EXUBERANCE

In this proposal, the idea of freedom and liveliness will be

reflected throughout the space as a reminder of what it means
to be a kid. Abstract playground references will drive the
design and reinforce the brand identity. The play on vertical
elements as well as the push and pull of surfaces will bring a
sense of depth and curiosity. An interactive mezzanine level
will overlook the ground floor which is meant to provide
immersive experiences fit for all age groups.

SOW A SEED
Sow a Seed regularly serves and supports the Caribbean’s
most vulnerable children starting with Haiti and in the areas
of health & nutrition, education, shelter, and arts & recreation.
Their mission is to bring hope, reduce hardship and promote
sustainable change in the lives of these children.

FRAGMENTED FLUIDITY

The concept for this project is based on the idea of divergent

pieces coming together to shape a better whole. Strongly
driven by their mosaic murals, this design is also inspired by
the company’s motto, ”collaborate for collective growth”.
Diagonal lines will bring a sense of rhythm to the space which
will in turn promote movement and encourage conversation.

MEDITATION POD
This meditation pod is designed to fulfill the needs of
Serenbe, a wellness community located on the edge of
Atlanta. Built entirely out of cardboard, the 12’W x 8’D x 8’H
structure can collapse and be disassembled into a moveable
module.

Embracing the use of sacred geometry within the planning

of the neighborhood, this design is based on the golden
ratio. The concave form enhances the sensory experience
of the users by amplifying outdoor sounds and reinforcing
the connection with nature. Hand cut perforations create
soft, dappled light while maintaining the privacy of the
ambiguously defined environment.
