“The Two Brothers”

by Leo Tolstoy

In the story “The Two Brothers” by Leo Tolstoy, the conflict arises from the discovery of
a stone that leads to a quest for happiness. The younger brother is more impulsive, whereas the
older sibling is more cautious. The decisions that the brothers make about their chances of
finding happiness reveal a lot about the two brothers' personalities. Many great writers were born
to use their works to represent their time and the culture in which they live. The author's work
aids readers in gaining a better understanding of how morality affects people's lives and governs
society.

The best way to analyze the story is through biographical criticism. This approach can
also be used to determine the state of the society in which the author lived at a certain period in
history. It emphasizes that literary works are a reflection of the author, implying that the author's
personality and personal life may be seen in his own works, as literary works represent the
author's unconscious condition. Tolstoy's aim, according to my research, was to uncover the
underlying truth of life's purpose, the revelation to be reached at the heart of the immense
complexity of human relationships. His work is fueled by his belief that this truth is good, and
that if discovered, it will end the world's discords and conflicts.

This story has given me valuable life lessons. As someone who is always eager to take a
chance, I have discovered that there is always hope in any opportunity. Even if the future is
uncertain, remember that every chance is a lesson and may provide us with a lasting memory. In
this short story, both brothers have advantages and disadvantages in their approach to life.
Despite the fact that they took separate routes, they both appear to be happy with their choices.
