THE SUPERPOWER (HOLY SPIRIT)
ADVISORY: This lesson must be taught BEFORE the ENCOUNTER
OBJECTIVE: To understand the need for more POWER and INTIMACY with
God
QUESTION: If you are to acquire superpowers, what would it be?
Acts 1:8 (NIV) “But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit
comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
It is very important to know and understand the third person in the Holy
Trinity, the Holy Spirit. Remember that winning souls and making disciples is
the work of God and we cannot do both without the power of the Holy Spirit.
THE HOLY SPIRIT:
1. IS A PROMISE OF GOD
ACTS 2:38-39 (NIV) “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one
of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And
you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and
your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God
will call.”

ROMANS 8:26 (NIV) “In the same way, the Spirit helps in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself
intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
3. GIVES US COURAGE
ACTS 1:8 (NIV) “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes
on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
HOW DO WE RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Thirst - you have to want it (John 7:37-39 NIV) On the last and greatest
day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is
thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said,
rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit,
whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the
Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Believe, that the Lord will give you the promise and desperately Ask for
Him. (Luke 11:10-13 NIV) For everyone who asks receives; the one who
seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of
you fathers, if your son asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if
he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father
in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Receive (John 20:22 NIV) And with that he breathed on them and said,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
