COURSE DESCRIPTION AND COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES


This course deals with concepts, principles and theories in teaching and learning. It also focuses on the
appropriate strategies of health education as they apply in various health care, scenarios.
The learners are expected to develop beginning skills in designing and implementing a teaching plan
using the nursing process as a framework.

At the end of the first year, given simulated situations in selected settings the learners demonstrate
basic nursing skills in rendering safe and appropriate care utilizing the nursing process.

1. Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural and health sciences and humanities in managing
clients, health care teams and programs in any setting.
2. Provide safe, appropriate, and holistic care to individuals, families, population groups and
communities utilizing nursing process in any setting.
3. Apply guidelines and principles of evidenced-based practice in nursing management.
4. Document to include reporting up-to-date outcomes of client care, health care team/nursing care
services accurately and comprehensively.
5. Work effectively in collaboration with inters-, intra- and multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams
to improve delivery of health care programs and services.
6. Engage in lifelong learning to promote the development of beginning professional leadership and
management skills.

All these are achieved through excellent instruction, relevant and responsive research and/or
extension services, and quality-assured production, of a true NOrSUnian with the core values of
SAPPHIRE needed to become dynamic, competitive, and globally responsive.

The learners are graded according to the following parameters:

Cut-off or required grade in relation to the
