LongͲtermchangesinbrainanatomy:
Meditationpractitionersmayhavethickercortexinbrainregionsassociated
withattention,interoception andsensoryprocessing,includingthe
prefrontalcortexandrightanteriorinsula.MeditationmightoffsetageͲ
relatedcorticalthinning.

Morerecently,neuroscienceresearchhasturnedtocompassionandlovingͲ
kindnessmeditation.
InlovingkindnessͲcompassionmeditation,expertpractitioners (comparedto
novices)showmore,notless,emotionalreactivitytosoundsofpeoplein
