Students will be expected to:

● Respect themselves, others, and their property
● Come to class on time and dress in a timely manner
● Participate in classroom activities to the best of your ability
● Follow directions in a prompt manner
● Have fun and be creative!

Grading Procedures
● 60% major grades (skills tests, projects, performances)
● 40% Daily Grades (Daily class work and participation, weekly check-ins, journal
entries)

Late Work & Make up Work

● Make-Up Work: No grade penalty and the students have the number of days
absent plus one to get the work turned in to the teacher. This also pertains to any
in class performance based make-up work. The day they return from the
absence does not count as the first day. If they do not meet those deadlines then
the Late Work is enforced.
● Late Work: 5 days to turn in the work after assignment due date and the highest
the students can make is an 80.

Absences
● It is your responsibility to make up any work you missed due to absences (Journal
entries, skills tests, etc.). Please be sure to check with Ms. White upon your return from
your absence for your assignment.

Dressing Out
All students are required to Dress Out for Dance Class each and every day. Students
will be informed ahead of time if they do not need to dress out.
• Black Hays CISD dance shirt ($10) will be ordered the first 2 weeks of class.
• Any black workout or dance pants such as; black dance pants, yoga pants, capris or
leggings must be worn. Hot shorts (spandex) are not allowed.

• Young men may wear black basketball shorts, joggers, or sweatpants

• Tan Jazz shoes are REQUIRED (you will order these on your own)
• Hair is put up and pulled out of face
• No jewelry. I advise bringing a small bag to put in your locker and LOCK it up.

Non-Participation
• There is no excuse for not dressing out besides illness and injury. If a student is
ill and cannot participate, a doctor’s note should be brought to Ms. White so that
the student can sit out and have alternative assignments.

Locker Room/Dance Class Procedures

- Come straight into the Red gym and enter the locker room – not the athletic hallway. You
will have 3 minutes after the tardy bell to be completely dressed out and starting the
warm-up on the white board.

phones, bags, or other personal belongings into the dance space unless told to do so.
- You are permitted to have water bottles in the dance space. No food or other beverages.
- Once dressed, roll call lines will be called. Any dancer who is not in these lines by roll
will be counted tardy.
- You will be dismissed to the locker room 3 minutes before the bell rings to dress back
into your school clothes.

Cell Phone Policy:

Interested in the Performance Group dance team?

The Barton Performance Group is a group of 7th and 8th grade dancers who have
gone through an audition process to participate in the following school year.
Auditions are in April and more information will be given for that Spring
semester. This team will require more of a financial responsibility,
before/after school practices, more performances, and possibly traveling for
performances. However, a few things to think about for the entire year if you
are interested in auditioning:

● You will be deducted points during auditions for the following:

excessive unexcused absences, failing report card grades, discipline
referrals or after school detention.
