GEOLOGIC HAZARD

Today We’ll learn about earthquakes”, Natures works in mysterious ways, Along with providing us the
best environment to live in. It also provides some calamities, hmm turn on your laptop browse a few
newspaper there’s is always something destructive happening somewhere because of nature share
power for instance such natural occurences are tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, volcanic
eruption and earthquake. These natural devastations are generally not caused directly caused by human
butt their reactions or after effects live with us for a very long time span. In this vedio we study one of
there’s natural destructive occurences called earthquake.

Did know that earthquake means there’s a sudden violent shaking of the ground. But! What makes the
ground shake. Is it because I’m jumping up and down or is it because the earth growing bigger and
bigger and bigger or because the earth is made of plates that slide around on top hot molten magma.

Earth is like this orange on the inside. It’s squishy and full of fluid and on the outside the orange peel is
like the Earth crust. The earth crust is broken up into what we call tectonic plates. All along the cracks of
the tectonic plates are when earthquake happens.

Did you know the place where the earthquake happen are called fault. There are three different kinds of
fault that makes earthquake happen 1 2 3 we are going to demonstrate how all of these happen. Are
you ready!

Let’s pretend this flour are like the inside of the earth the flour is like the magma and this styro are like
the earth crust

The first type of fault is a transform fault, this means that the plates slide and slide fast each other just
like this. Second type of fault is called divergent fault this means that the plates pull away from each
other look! And the third type is called a convergent fault this means that two plates push together.

So those are the three kinds of fault that cause earthquake.

Did you know that you can measure earthquakes?

They get score on how strong they are and they go all the way 1 to 10 on what we called the richter
scale. The bigger the number the stronger the earthquake. So on earthquake measure a 2.5 it’s smaller
and it doesn’t cause as much as damage but an earthquake that measure 8.5 cause a lot of damage.

Imagine that you’re studying in your room and suddenly the floor begins to shake. Frames and other
things fall of the desk and you might be thrown from your seat, that’s what happen when you an
earthquake occurs.
