Hello:

My name is Camille Vargas, student ID N15409832. I apologize for the delay on the
assignment. Please find bellow my answers regarding the Day 3 – Terminology and
Concepts:

1. Identify significant vocabulary from the video and the assigned reading in
Essential English in Context ("ELEIC" Unit 1). There is no minimum or maximum
number of terms that you must include, and you should choose vocabulary and
background concepts that you find interesting or important;

While reading the Essential legal English in Context and watching the pre-class video,
several terms were quite interesting. Such as:

- To vet an issue, means that an issue will be examined through specific details,
discussion and analysis.
- Elements of statute are specific requirements established by law that must be
proven or complied.
- Interstate means between states and intrastate is within the demarcation of the
state.

2. Write down the main points of the video;

Case citations helps us determine the specific opinion or decision on court cases,
leading us to the source of information. Citation to reporters give the location of the
case. Reporters are books or volumes that establishes the written opinion and decisions
of juridical cases.

The reporters for federal courts opinions are based on the hierarchy of federal courts.
Mostly all citations represent the year it was published with the ( ).

1. The Supreme Court of the US:


Key items -
 These are abbreviated with U.S. (tells it comes from The Supreme
Court of the US).
 S. Ct. is the Supreme Court Report.
 L.Ed. stands for the Lawyer´s edition its was published.

2. Federal Appeal Courts:


Key items -
 These are abbreviated with F. (tells it comes from a Court of appeal).
 The numbers could tell the series which it belongs. The lack of number
is no series.
 The Circ. is for the circuit the court belongs.

3. Federal District Courts:


Key items -
 These are abbreviated with F. Supp – for federal supplement - (tells it
comes from Federal trial court).
 The numbers could tell the series which it belongs. The lack of number
is no series.

3. Prepare two or more questions to ask your classmates about the video or ELIEC
content.
- How can a series be identified in a federal court citation?
- Are there reporters for state courts?
- Until what numerical / chronological limit is the reporter enabled?
