About the Teacher:
My name is Bailey Rowe and I am a native to Albuquerque. I attended Albuquerque Public Schools
where I graduated from the Early College Academy. I attended college at Central New Mexico Community
College as well as the University of New Mexico where I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Biology
and a double minor in Psychology and Management. I am a recent graduate of the Alternative Licensure
Program at CNM where I have obtained my level 1 teachers license and teaching certificate. I am also a recent
graduate of the MBA Educational Leadership program offered by UNM’s Anderson School of Management. I
have played soccer for 22 years and have a deep passion for the sport that has led me to collegiate prospect
offers and later to coaching at the high school level. I am very excited for this semester and I look forward to
engaging in the amazing learning experience that is the ECA. GO ELEMENTS!

Course Description:
This health education course will focus on the understanding of health from the individualistic view to
the outward environment. In order to fully understand the effects of nutrition, drugs, relationships, media,
mental illnesses, disease, etc. one must first understand the human body. Students will be expected to
comprehend health topics, constructively analyze them, and be able to relate them with a biological method.
This course will take students on a full circle approach to health and wellness.

Course Objectives:
● Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention
● Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting services
● Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health risks
● Students will analyze the influence of culture, media, technology and other factors on health
● Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health
● Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting and decision-making skills to enhance health
● Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal family, peer and community health

Classroom Expectations:  
All students must act in accordance with the CEC/ECA School rules at all times (see “Student
Handbook”).  It is the expectation of CEC/ECA that all students will have a successful year.  To accomplish this
goal the following requirements should be met:
1. Be considerate and respectful at all times.  Treat others the way you want to be treated!  Act with
honesty, integrity, and manners at all times.
2. Come to class prepared with all the necessary materials.
3. Consume food, drink and gum before entering the classroom. Water is the only exception ☺
4. Phones are to be OFF or on SILENT. I SHOULD NOT SEE ANY PHONES.
5. Be in your seat when class begins.  The tardy policy will be strictly enforced as stated in the
handbook.

Grading Rubric:
● Summative Assessments – 50%
● Formative Assessments (Beginning/End of Lesson Activity Responses) – 20%
● Seminars/Debates/Structured Academic Controversy- 10%
● Course Summative Assessment (Final Exam)- 20%
90 – 100 A Excellent – substantially exceeds the minimum requirements
80 – 89 B Good – exceeds the minimum requirements
70 – 79 C Average – meets the minimum requirements
60 – 69 D Below Average/Poor  
Below 60 F Failing

Classwork Requirements:
Students are expected to come to class every day with their personal notebook. Note taking is mandatory
during class sessions. This class is structured to be discussion based however there will be additional
information that will be covered that is not in the textbook. Students will have in-class journals where they will
write their formative assessments for each lesson as well as their summative Intellectual Diary excerpt for each
unit. Homework will be given out sparingly therefore it is important that students complete the assignment with
assistance from their personal notes. Any assignments typed are REQUIRED to be 12pt Times New-Roman
font and double spaced. Group projects will be graded on an individual participation basis.

Make-Up Work:
Students unable to complete an assignment, quiz, or test/project due to an excused absence will have an
opportunity to make up the work in accordance with the school policy.  It is solely the student’s responsibility to
obtain any missed handouts and notes and to arrange to make up quizzes and tests.  A ’0’ will be recorded for
any assignments not completed.  Freshman students will follow the 3-2-1-0 late work policy. Freshman
students will be allowed up to 3 days to turn in work which will amount to 20% off the first day, 40% off
the 2nd day, and 50% off the third day the fourth day is a zero.

Google Classroom:
Google Classroom is my Learning Management System of choice. I will use this platform to facilitate
handing out assignments, due dates, pacing calendars, grading, and feedback. Parents can be added on to
Google Classroom as a guardian to see the content students are being assigned. Google Classroom does sync
with Synergy, therefore grading will show up on ParentVue and StudentVue to show each student's
comprehensive marks. If you would like to be added as a guardian/parent to your students Google Classroom
please send me an email.
