DONNING AND DOFFING PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) CHECKLIST

• Secure ties or elastic bands at middle
of head and neck
• Fit flexible band to nose bridge
• Fit snug to face and below chin
• Fit-check respirator
Applies Goggles or Face Shield
• Place over face and eyes and adjust to
fit
Make sure that all parts of skin covered. c/o
of partner

PPE should be taken off in a designated PPE
removal area such as infectious waste
container
Inspect PPE for visible contamination or tears
Disinfect outer gloves
Remove apron by pulling from the neck if
applicable
Disinfect outer gloves
Remove Boot Covers by touching inner
surface of the boot cover

Remove outer gloves avoid contaminates the
inner gloves

GOGGLE OR FACE SHIELD
• Outside of goggle or face shield are
contaminated.
• If your hands get contaminated
during goggle or face shield removal,
immediately wash you hands or use
an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
• Remove goggles or face shields from
back by lifting head band or earpieces
• If the item is reusable, place in
designated receptacle for
reprocessing. Otherwise, discard in a
waste container

Remove the hood of PPE

GOWN
•Gown front and sleeves are
contaminated • If your hands get
contaminated during gown removal,
immediately wash your hands or use an
alcohol-based hand sanitizer

• Unfasten gown ties, taking care that


sleeves don’t contact your body when
reaching for ties
• Pull gown away from neck and
shoulders, touching inside of gown only
• Turn gown inside out
• Fold or roll into a bundle and discard in
a waste container
Disinfect inner gloves
Remove Inner gloves
Perform hand hygiene with alcohol-based
hand rub
Put on a new pair inner gloves
Removes Mask
N95 or Surgical mask
• Front of mask/respirator is
contaminated — DO NOT TOUCH!
• If your hands get contaminated
during mask/respirator removal,
immediately wash your hands or use
an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
• Grasp bottom ties or elastics of the
mask/respirator, then the ones at the
top, and remove without touching the
front
• • Discard in a waste container
Disinfect inner gloves
Disinfect washable boots by starting top and
finishing with the sole, wipe down the
external surface of the first boot. Use 1:10
bleach disinfectant if applicable
Disinfect inner gloves and Remove Gloves
WASH HANDS OR USE AN ALCOHOL-BASED HAND
SANITIZER IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVING ALL
PPE
