Gun Control

Part one

The selected article is "Biden morns Indianapolis shooting, says gun violence has become

too normal" by Adam Edelman on NBC news of April 16, 2021. Gun violence in the United

States has become a concern that needs to be addressed as fast as possible. According to this

article, eight people had lost their life due to gun violence. After the killing in Indianapolis, there

has been a debate on the social medial regarding gun control(Edelman, 2021). The issue of gun

control is a matter that has been debated for a long time, with some individuals proposing the

need for the government to burn the selling of guns in the United States while the other group

proposes that it is their constitutional right to possess a gun for self-protection. in my opinion

there is a need for a proper strategy that will address the issues of gun control in the community.

The increase of individuals possessing a gun in the community can be attributed to the increase

in crime rate, but the incident reduced with the gun's control.

CORONAVIRUS Gunsale surge”  by  Chelsea Parsons and Rukmani Bhatia on

lined up to buy a gun after the governed issue order to burning the sale of nonessentials. The

other source is the “Gun control Topic overview” article by (Gale acengage company, 2021).

This article talks about the importance of having gun control and background check on those that

buy a gun.

Part two

According to Giffords Law Center (2020), it is estimated that over 38 000  American

citizens are killed due to gun-related violence. The statist can be translated as 100 individuals

losing their lives daily due to gun-related shootings. The number is alarming since most of these

individuals are productive members of the community.  According to the new paper report

president, Biden is alerted by the number of people losing their lives due to gun violence. He

said that something needs to be done. While her deputy Harris states there is a need to end the

issue of gun violence in society. In my opinion, what needs to be done is to regulate and control

the gun sale in the united state of America while regulating the number of illegal firearms in the

street.

Over the years, there has been debate over gun control and people's right to possess guns.

The has been an increase in the number of people possing guns. Almost every household posses

again for security.  His issue has contributed to a lot of debate since gun violence is on the rise.

Gun control is defined as the legal plan implemented to ensure that there is limited

possession(Eckstein & Partlow Lefevre 2017). In the past gun, possession has been associated

with the occurrence of gun violence. The proponents of gun control are against the idea of

arming more individuals in the community( Chelsea Parsons and Rukmani Bhatia 2020). They

suggest that arming more individuals in the community may contribute to the hatred that may be

the leading cause of gun violence. There are seven lug control laws that the united state has set to

control the gun. They include law regarding the hunting, crime and safety and slave, and

common defense as that of England. However, over time the American colonies expanded and

applied the England gun control in two-part the failed to restrict the individual that possed the
5

gun in the state.

The possession and the use of the gun were based on the social-economic status of an

individual. Besides, the American colonies could not prescribe militia bases on class but instead

arranged collective draft where men of all status could possess a gun for self-defense. The united

state supreme court holds a second amendment restricting the federal government and the state

from imposing any gun control regulation, denying citizens their rights as national militia

members and individual possession of a gun(Gunn et al., 2018). According to the state, the

constitution provision restricts the state government from passing the gun control legislation. The

gun control restrictions that have been enacted by both the state government and federal regard

to criminal, mentally ill persons, criminal background check, and the restriction.

In recent, gun violence has become common. This year according to the article by the

NBC news they have been over three incidents of a mass shooting with a time frame of one

month. The issues of mass shootings in a public places have created a lot of debate. However,

congress does not seem to take any action to address gun violence in the community. In 2018 the

political climate did not seem to take a step toward addressing gun violence(McClellan & Tekin

2017). The Republicans were against gun control in the country  54 republicans in the senate-

house voted in to support the background check of individuals who are purchasing guns.

The last gun control plan that was was passed into law is the assault weapon ban. It was

passed in 1994  that on one of the crime-related bill that was approved by the by president bill

Clinton. The ban affected 19 particular semi-automatic model firearms and other guns that had a

similar feature. However, it came to an end when it expired in 2004, and the attempt to renew it

has failed.  According to the research conducted in  2017, over 84 percent of American citizens

support the expansion of the background check on the individual purchasing firearms (Woldoff
6

et al., 2017). However, some individuals still argue that having an unlimited gun will be against

their constitutional right to possess a gun for self-defense.

At the same time, they are proposing that if the criminal is determined to possess a gun,

they can still possess guns since there are many illegal guns available in the street. They are

proposing that the government needs first control the number of illegal guns in the street. If they

are serious, they need to control guns.  Bun on sale of firearms and gun possession won't help

reduce violence in the community. The advocate of gun rights also fails to look into the crime

committed by individuals, that if they could not have the weapon, the extend of damage could

have enormous as to when they used the weapons. Also, the incidence of domestic shootings

within the family member is on the rise.

If these individuals had a lack of a gun, the number of death due to gun-related violence

could have dropped, and more lives could have been saved(Siegel et al., 2017). Therefore, in my

opinion, it is important to conduct a background check for every individual that possesses a gun

and those that want to buy one. Although it is challenging to end gun violence in the nation, it is

possible to control and decrease the incidence of gun violence in our community. The increase in

gun violence is the one that has contributed to the debate across the nation. United state is the

leading country with the hight number of gun-related violence in the world. The balance between

gun rights and gun control is important a needs to be addressed in a good way.

Conclusion

Gun control is one of the key issues that need to be addressed by both the community and the

state. The number of death that are related to gun violence is increasing at an alarming rate.

There is a need for both the party involved in this debate to come together to look for a solution

that will benefit both parties. Since disarming the community without regulating the number of
7

illegal gun in the community can lead to people being more venerable of protecting themself

theirs for providing the criminal individual with an easy time of attacking people in their home.

It is also important that the community participate in gun control by reporting people who

possess illegal firearms in the community. Also, in my opinion, the government needs to crack

down on the individual selling illegal gan in the community since most illegal guns are the ones

involved in committing the crime and causing harm. Also, there should be a background check

on people that possess and those that need to buy a gun.
