PSALMODY
2

Psalm 118 (119): 145-152

Ant. 1. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
Alleluia.

I call on you with all my heart *

answer me, Lord., I will obey your laws.

I call on you save me *

so that I can keep your decrees.

At first light I cry to you, *

I put all my hope in your word.

In the night I keep watch, *

pondering your sayings.

In your mercy, Lord, hear my voice; *

in your justice, give me life.

My persecutors come to do me harm: *

they are far from your law.

But you, Lord, are near to me, *

and you are trustworthy in all your precepts.

From the beginning I have known your decrees, *

how you have made them to last for ever.
3

Glory be to the Father and to the Son *

and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, *
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. 1. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
Alleluia.

Canticle - Wisdom 9
Lord, give me wisdom

Ant. 2. Lord, you have set up your temple and altar on your holy mountain.
Alleluia.

God of my fathers and Lord of mercy, *

who made all things by your word;
who in your wisdom set man *
to rule over all that you created
to arrange the world in holiness and justice *
to make right judgements according to the guidance of his heart:

give me Wisdom, who stands by your throne, *

and let me not be unworthy to be your servant.

For I am your slave and the son of your servant-girl, -

4

a man, weak, short-lived, *

slow to understand your judgements and laws.

Even the highest of the children of men *

if your wisdom is absent – counts for nothing.
With you abides Wisdom, who knows your works. *
She was with you when you made the world.

She knew what was pleasing to your eyes. *

She saw what was right according to your precepts.

Send your Wisdom from the highest heaven; *

send her from the throne of your greatness;
that she may abide with me and work with me, *
so that I may know what it is that pleases you.

For Wisdom knows everything, and understands; -

she will lead me wisely in what I do, *
and protect me in her glory.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son *

and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, *
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Praise the Lord, all nations; *

all peoples, praise him.

preserve in our life

All acclaim: Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

Reading from the letter of the Acts 28:16-20, 30-31

On our arrival in Rome Paul was allowed to stay in lodgings of his own with
the soldier who guarded him.

After three days he called together the leading Jews. When they had assembled,
he said to them, ‘Brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or
the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to
the Romans.

They examined me and would have set me free, since they found me guilty of
nothing involving the death penalty; but the Jews lodged an objection, and I
was forced to appeal to Caesar, not that I had any accusation to make against
my own nation. That is why I have asked to see you and talk to you, for it is on
account of the hope of Israel that I wear this chain.’

Paul spent the whole of the two years in his own rented lodging. He welcomed
all who came to visit him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching the
truth about the Lord Jesus Christ with complete freedom and without hindrance
from anyone.

Reader: The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.
7

Responsorial Psalm 10(11):4-5, 7.

R./ The good shall see your face, O Lord.

The Lord is in his holy temple,

the Lord has his throne in heaven;
his eyes are watching,
his pupils examine men.

R./ The good shall see your face, O Lord.

The Lord examines the innocent and the guilty,

and he hates him who loves violence.
For the Lord is just and loves justice:
the good shall see his face.

R./ The good shall see your face, O Lord.

Song: Hallelujah

Hallelujah Glory hallelujah (x8)

Priest: The Lord be with you.

The people reply: And with your spirit.

Priest:

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 21:20-25.

The people acclaim: Glory to you, O Lord.

Peter turned and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them – the one who
had leaned on his breast at the supper and had said to him, ‘Lord, who it that
will betray you is?’ Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, ‘What about him, Lord?’
Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to stay behind till I come, what does it matter to
you? You are to follow me.’ The rumour then went out among the brothers that
this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus had not said to Peter, ‘He will not die’,
but, ‘If I want him to stay behind till I come.’
This disciple is the one who vouches for these things and has written them
down, and we know that his testimony is true.
There were many other things that Jesus did; if all were written down, the
world itself, I suppose, would not hold all the books that would have to be
written.

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord.

All reply: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

HOMILY

Homily – May 22th, 2021

Then follows the Universal Prayer, that is, the Prayer of the Faithful or Bidding
Prayers.
9

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest: Brothers, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, let us join with all the
baptized in giving glory to the Lord: Lord Jesus, make us holy by your
Spirit.

Send your Holy Spirit into our minds and hearts; let us proclaim before men
that you are king and Lord.

– Lord Jesus, make us holy by your Spirit.

Grant us a love that is genuine; give us respect and a real affection for one
another.

– Lord Jesus, make us holy by your Spirit.

Renew the hearts of the faithful by your life-giving grace; move them to
respond gladly to the gifts of the Spirit.

– Lord Jesus, make us holy by your Spirit.

Grant us the power of your Spirit to repair our damaged lives; may he turn
decay into growth.

– Lord Jesus, make us holy by your Spirit.

Priest:
Give us grace, almighty God,
to hold fast in life and conduct
to the mystery we have celebrated at Easter.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

Priest: Pray, brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to

God, the almighty Father.

The people rise and reply: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for
the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy
Church.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Righteous Father, may the coming of the Holy Spirit

prepare our hearts
to participate in the divine mysteries,
for he himself is the forgiveness of all sins.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

PREFACE TO ASCENSION II

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.
V. Lift up your hearts.
R. We lift them up to the Lord.
V. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
R. It is right and just.

It is indeed fair and necessary,

it is our duty and salvation
to give you thanks
always and everywhere,
O Lord, holy Father,
almighty and eternal God,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Who, after his glorious resurrection,

appeared visibly to all his disciples
and before their eyes ascended into heaven
to make us partakers of his divinity.

Therefore,
the whole world overflows with joy
12

with this abundant outpouring of Easter joy,

and so do the heavenly choirs,
angels and archangels,
sing without ceasing the hymn of your glory:

Song: Holy
Holy (Mass of Christ the Savior)

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER V/d

The Church, on the road to unity

Priest: We glorify you, holy Father,

for you are always with us
on the path of life,
especially when Christ, your Son, gathers us to him,
for the paschal banquet of his love.
As he once did
with the disciples of Emmaus,
he explains the Scriptures to us
and breaks bread for us.

We beseech you, therefore, almighty Father,

to send your Spirit upon this bread and wine,
so that they may be for us
13

Body and + Blood of Jesus Christ,

your Son and our Lord.

Himself, on the eve of his Passion,

while at table with his disciples,
took bread,
gave you thanks, broke it
and gave it to them, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,

FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.

Likewise,
took the chalice full of wine,
gave thanks to you with the prayer of blessing
and passed it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,

FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR
THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

Priest:
Christ gave himself for us.
And the people continue, acclaiming: By your cross and resurrection you
have saved us, Lord.

Therefore, Father of goodness,

we now celebrate
14

the memorial of our reconciliation,

and we proclaim the work of your love:
Christ, your Son,
through suffering and death on the cross,
has risen to new life
and has been glorified at your right hand.

Direct your gaze, holy Father, upon this offering;

It is Jesus Christ who offers himself with his body
and with his blood, and by this sacrifice,
opens for us the way to you.

Lord, Father of mercy,

pour out upon us
the Spirit of Love,
the Spirit of your Son.

Make our church in Bogota

be constantly renewed in the light of the Gospel.
and always find new impulses of life;
consolidate the bonds of unity
between the laity and the pastors of your Church,
between our Bishop Luis José Rueda Aparicio,
and his priests and deacons,
between all the Bishops and Pope Francis;
may the Church be, in the midst of our world,
divided by wars and discord,
an instrument of unity, harmony and peace.

Remember also, Father,

of our brothers and sisters who have died
in the peace of Christ, and of all
all the other deceased, whose faith
only you knew;
admit them to contemplate the light of your countenance.
and lead them to the fullness of life.
in the resurrection.

And when our pilgrimage

our pilgrimage through this world,
15

receive us also into your kingdom,

where we hope to rejoice together
the eternal fullness of your glory.

In communion with the Virgin Mary, Mother of God,

the apostles and martyrs,
Saint Joseph,
Saint Dominic, our father,
and all the saints,
we invoke you, Father, and glorify you,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Through him, and with him, and in him,

O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honour is yours,
for ever and ever.

The people acclaim: Amen.

THE COMMUNION RITE

Priest:
At the Saviour’s command
and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
16

but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The people conclude the prayer, acclaiming: For the kingdom, the power and
the glory are yours now and for ever.

Priest:
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you, my peace I give you;
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.

Priest: Who live and reign for ever and ever.

The people reply: Amen.

Priest: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

The people reply: And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

Lamb of God (Mass of Christ the Savior)

Lamb of God
you take away the sins of the world
have mercy on us
(repeat 2x)

Lamb of God
you take away the sins of the world
Grant us peace.

Priest:
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All: Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say
the word and my soul shall be healed.

Luke 1:68-79, The Messiah and his forerunner.

Blessed + be the Lord, the God of Israel; *

he has come to his people and set them free.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *

born of the house of his servant David.

Through his holy prophets he promised of old †

that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.

He promised to show mercy to our fathers *

and to remember his holy covenant.

This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham: *

to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High; *

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God *

the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
