Problem Set:

1. Define Statistics in your own words.

* Statistics is that in one state, 52% of the voters are Republicans, and 48% are
Democrats. In a second state, 47% of the voters are Republicans, and 53% are
Democrats. Suppose a simple random sample of 100 voters are surveyed from each
state.

2. What is the difference between Inferential and Descriptive statistics?

* Descriptive statistics refers to the use of representative or sample sets of data to
derive a conclusion or finding. In descriptive statistics, the determinations reached
are only applied to the population or data set being studied. Inferential statistics,
by contrast, allow scientists to take findings from a sample group and generalize
them to a larger inferential statistics is taking a sample that is representative of a
population and then drawing a conclusion for that larger group. This requires careful
calculations to analyze the statistics correctly and ensure the connection between
population and sample size is accurately represented, often through additional tests
and mathematical work.

3. Given the following data set: 1, 1, 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, 1, 6,7, 3, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 1, 2, 3,

4, 6, 8, 2, 3, 3,9, 1, 6.

A. Find the Mean, Median and Mode.

B. Find the Variance and Standard Deviation.
