Structural Information and Specification

 The Contractor shall prepare all working drawings that detail required in works or requested by
the Engineer and shall obtain approval from the Engineer. The detail design calculations are to
be provided.
 Structural Steel shall comply with the requirement of BS EN 10025-2: 2004 , Hot Rolled Products
of Structural Steel Part 2: Technical Delivery Conditions for Non Alloy Structural Steels
 The loadings shall comply to
o BS 5400 – Part 2 and relevant basic wind loads are to be obtained from Bridge Design
Manual (1997), RDA . Minimum nominal wind pressure of 1.5kN/m 2 to be considered.
 Structural Designs are to be comply with below codes of practices
o BS 5400: Part 4 – Code of practice for Concrete (Minimum G30 for structural Concrete
with cover of 50mm is recommended)
o BS 5950 :2000 – Structural use of Steelworks (Minimum G43 i.e. S275 along with BS 4
sections are recommended)
 Foundation Designs (See the attached drawing)
o BS 8004: 1986 Code of Practice for Foundations
o 35 degrees of Internal angle of friction in soil and base friction of 0.4 is recommended,
unless otherwise specified.
o Lateral displacements to be limited below 5mm or proven by test.
 All structural steel sections are to be Hot dipped Galvanized with design thickness conjunction to
ISO 1461:2009 and powder coated to match the color along with Noise Barrier panels
 Other Standards and Guidelines – To be adopted appropriately, if required.
o ICTAD/SCA/5 - ICTAD Standard Specifications for Construction and Maintenance of
Road & Bridges - Second Edition, June 2009 (SCA/5).
o BS 5649 :part 2– Specification for Lighting Columns- ( G is 390 for foundations
above high flood areas and 230 for foundation below high flood levels)
