EVALUATION
After interpreting the radiograph for identification of discontinuities, the film
interpreter must judge if the discontinuities are acceptable or rejectable and
require repair. He should be familiar with the terminology of the codes and
standards as they all do not use the same terminology for the types of
discontinuities. Saudi Aramco Inspection Procedure (SAIP) - 016 is the
procedure that contains acceptance criteria for radiography. A copy of this
procedure is in Addendum B. The acceptance criteria in SAIP-016 has been
extracted from the applicable code or standard. The codes included are:
ASME |
ASME VII
ASME/ANSI B31.1
ASME/ANSI B31.3
‘ASME/ANSI B31.4
ASME/ANSI B31.8
APL 1104
AWS D1.1
API 650.
Power Boilers
Pressure Vessels
Power Piping
Chemical Plant and Petroleum Refinery Piping,
Liquid Transportation Systems for Hydrocarbons
Gas Transmission Piping Systems
Welding of Pipelines
Structural Steel
Oil Storage Tanks
For judging discontinuities of castings, the film interpreter uses
ASTM E446
ASTM E186
ASTM E280
Standard Reference Radiographs for Steel Castings
up to 2 inches in Thickness
Standard Reference Radiographs for Steel Castings
from 2 to 41/2 inches in Thickness
Standard Reference Radiographs for Steel Castings
from 4 1/2 to 12 inches in Thickness
The film interpreter may measure the discontinuitles using scales, rulers or
optical comparators. He must not touch the measuring tool on the film which
could scratch or damage the film
