1. Highlight the role, importance and scope of statistics in business decision making in detail.
Explain with examples.

2. Discuss and differentiate between mean, median and mode. Which of these is a better
measure for central tendencies? Also comment on the limitations of these measures.

3. Are the following nominal, ordinal, interval or ratio data? Explain your answers.

(a) Temperatures measured on the Kelvin scale.

(b) Military ranks.

(c) Social security numbers.

(d) Number of passengers on buses from Delhi to Mumbai.

(e) Code numbers given to the religion of persons attempting suicide.

4. Illustrate that fisher’s formula satisfy both Time reversal Test and Factor Reversal Test.

5. Under what circumstances would you recommend :

(a) A probability sample?

(b) A non-probability sample?

(c) A stratified sample?

(d) A cluster sample? Comment.

6. Given: Variance of X=30, Regression Equations: 3X+4Y=44 and 5X+8Y= 80. Find

a) Mean of X and Y

b) r (c) S.D of Y

7. A man having to drive 90 KM wishes to achieve an average speed of 30 KM per hour. For
the first half of the journey, he averages only 20 KM per hour. What must be his average
speed for the second half of the journey if his overall average speed is to be 30 KM per
hour?

8. On an examination in English, 10 students in one class showed a mean grade of 80 with


Standard Deviation of 8, while 12 students of another class showed mean grade of 76 with
standard deviation of 10. Assuming 0.01 level of significance determine whether the first
group is superior to second group.
