KING TOBIAS’ TOURNAMENT RULES

King Tobias’ Tournament is a scenario that is unlike most current Runebound scenarios that focus on a boss. Instead all story cards are events that heroes will
compete in at the end of the game to determine who is most worthy to become King Tobias’ Champion. Set-up is the same for any Runebound game, but there
are some rules clarifications below for this scenario:

ADVENTURE DECKS AND ASSETS

This scenario does not come with extra adventure cards, so it is recommended that if a stack runs out to shuffle the pile and refill them. Alternatively if you have
enough expansions you can make a 30 card deck for each type from expansion content.

Assets: It is recommended that you remove the following assets as they have the potential of being too good for their cost: “Rich Clothes” (B), “Alchemist Belt”
(A), and “Elven Armor” (A).

STORY CARDS

Story cards are events that King Tobias is setting up for a Champion’s Tournament. Keep each of the story cards visible to all players. As story cards are revealed
players will be begin to see how they can prepare for the end game. Most games will involve some combination of skills, movement, exploration and combat,
but depending on which events are pulled it is possible that you may only have to build your character in a specific way.

There are 2 story cards which are an exception to the above: “An Act of Charity” and “A King’s Coffers”. These events are partially resolved immediately. The first
time one of these cards is drawn place it to the left of the first event as it will be resolved at the end of the game before the rest of the events. Then draw an
additional story card. Only one of these two cards can come into play in a game. If a second one comes into play discard it immediately and draw an additional
event card.

EXERTION AND EVENTS

When the time runs out for players to prepare for the Tournament, all players are immediately moved to Tamalir, where most of the events will be hosted.

Players discard their hand of skill cards and will get one exertion point for each event they are going to compete in: instead of using skill cards for exertion use
the story tokens as counters for skill cards: black = 3 and white = 1. Reshuffle the entire skill deck.

If a player decides before time runs out they may move to Tamalir and spend 3 actions to one exertion point that they can use in the tournament for the
purposes of exerting (max 5). This means that in a normal game with 6 events a player could have at most 11 exertion points.
RESOLVING EVENTS

If either of the cards “An Act of Charity” or “A King’s Coffers” came into play resolve this first.

Then starting with the first player and proceeding in turn order begin the first event. In the second event the second player will start and so on. Wherever
possible players should be competing as though taking an individual action and then letting the next player go.

“Once per turn” effects: for any effect gained through a skill or hero ability or asset, count a “once per turn” text as reading “once per event” for when
competing in events at the end of the game.

Skill check events: For example if you are competing in the “Hammer Toss”, the first player will draw skill cards according to their body once choosing to exert if
they so choose, the next player until all players have taken one action, then it returns to the first player to do the second skill check.

Movement and exploration events: The same goes for movement and exploration. Roll all dice for a single turn, resolve, then pass to the next player. There is
one clarification worth noting. For the event “Underwater Treasure”, this event requires you to roll dice one at a time. If you have an exploration of 4, you will
roll one die choose whether or not to exert, then roll another die, and so on until you have rolled 4 dice, then pass to the next player.

Extra Movement Dice: You may exert to roll extra dice for the movement challenges “Starfall Sprint” and “The Metal Run”. There is no limit to how many dice in
a turn you may roll. However, if you wish to roll more than 5 dice you must first use one or more of your 5 dice to roll the additional dice. Example: Player A has
a movement of 4 and exerts to roll an extra die bringing the total to 5. He is doing Starfall Sprint and rolls a water/mountain and the rest plains. He decides to
use a water to move into the swamp and one plains, then decides to exert again to roll one of the used dice. He gets a forest, so he then proceeds to use his
remaining dice to move into Starfall forest and back one space towards Tamalir.

For both movement events it is important to calculate how many turns each player took exactly. For example: player A has 5 dice and player B has 4 dice. Player
A takes 2 turns plus 2 dice to finish. Player B takes 2 turns plus 2 dice. This means that both players took the same amount of turns.

For combat events: a player starts and finishes the entire combat, rather than breaking it up by combat rounds. It is important to take note of the total damage
done to your hero as this breaks ties. At the end of any combat after all players have fought everyone heals all damage to their character.

The characters for combat events use the monster tokens plus the Act II token. When fighting them act as though you are fighting them on their home location
(will affect Lyssa’s exploration ability). King Tobias counts as being on mountains.

Drez, Elytha, and Vizaan have a surge ability that does 4 damage – 1/trophy of a specific type. You count your appropriate number of trophies as being any
unspent trophies of that type AND any such trophies that your skills required you to obtain. Example: Player A has the skill “Living Weapon” which required 2
combat trophies and he has one unused combat trophy for a total of 3 visible combat trophies. This means that Drez’s ability “Seen Wars” only does 1 damage if
used.
WINNING THE GAME

The player who wins the most events is the winner! If there is a tie those players face off against King Tobias himself. Whoever manages to do the most damage
before being defeated is the winner. If players are tied for having dealt the most damage, then both players win. In the unlikely event that both players defeat
King Tobias the player who took the least damage is the winner.

OTHER RULE CLARIFICATIONS

Elytha’s ability “Evade”: only works for the current combat round, it does not stretch into the next combat round.

Elytha’s ability “Ranged”: after casting tokens Elytha gets an action where she can spend up to three damage tokens immediately. This can include a 2 damage
token, meaning she can deal more than 3 damage. She cannot use a doubling token to increase the damage. She immediately recasts the tokens spent and then
play proceeds normally by first calculating initiative. This special only happens on the first combat round.

Zelka’s ability “Quick”: Zelka does damage equal to the attacking player’s number of assets. A player may not choose to discard an asset right before fighting
Zelka.

Laurel of Bloodwood’s “Pathfinding”: For the purposes of the events this card reads as “Once per event, you may reroll all of your terrain dice”. For Underwater
Treasure this means only rerolling a single die once in the event.

Zyla’s “Channel Chaos”: For the purposes of the events taking damage stays for the next combat if any. Zyla may use this ability once/event.

Lyssa’s “Stalk Prey”: When fighting any of the combat events use the homeland as the terrain you are fighting in. For King Tobias, use mountains.

Jonas the Kind’s “Unexpected Skills”: For the purpose of events this card reads as “Once per event you may exert twice to add 1 success to the results”

VARIANTS

Leaked Information: Start the game with all events revealed. This will mean players have the whole game to build their characters according to the events that
will transpire. You may also choose characters after revealing the starting assets, and story cards. The player who chooses first receives one less gold than their
player card indicates. The third and fourth player receive an extra gold.

Bribing Tobias: A player may visit Tamalir and pay 3 gold or one trophy to do one of two things: look at the top 3 cards of the deck and place one on the bottom
and the others in any order OR look at the bottom 3 cards of the story deck and place one on the top and remove one from the game.

Revolt Against Tobias: Play the game normally, but a player may at the start of the events declare his hatred for King Tobias. He faces off against King Tobias
immediately and if he defeats him, he wins and the tournament does not take place. He becomes the new King of Terrinoth. Should he lose, he does not take
part in the tournament as he is exiled from Terrinoth.
SOLO RULES

If choosing to play solo set up is the same, but remove the story cards “An Act of Charity” and “A King’s Coffers”. The game length is considered to be a normal
length with 6 events ending at the end of Act II.

In order to win the tournament you must win 4+ of the 6 events revealed (a majority) OR win 3 events and face off against King Tobias dealing a minimum
amount of damage to him (see table below). There are several difficulties one of which a player should choose before beginning the game depending on what
level of challenge they wish to face. See the table below for the minimum requirements to win each event.
