CASE ANALYSIS PROPOSED STRUCTURE

I/ Overview
1. Identify all the challenges/questions/problems/issues/situation/… that need to be
solved (follow the case)
2. Suggest your brief recommendations

II/ Detail
1. Evaluate all of your recommendations
- Compare all the recommendations, what are the cost and benefit of each
recommendation (including both tangible and intangible cost/benefit). For
example, the tangible benefit could be money $$$, profit, users…./ intangible
benefit could be reputation, sustainability,…
- After comparing all of the recommendations, you guys choose (maybe top 3 or
up to you) the most possible options and set priority for them.
- Notes:
⚫ Recommendations could come from the case itself, or it could be something you
guys come up with. (ex: Sony case, Cloud Gaming and AR/VR was taken from the
case)
⚫ For those recommendations that come from your creativity, you can come up
with anything you like, but it would be better if you have a logical reason behind
it. Ex: You should not say that I suggest this idea because I like it and I think it is
awesome. You should say something like I suggest this idea based on the
situation/customer/context…of the company → recommendations should be
reasonable, practical and stick with the case.
➢ Tips: Recommendations could come from other competitors. Spend some times
to research other main competitors, why did they succeed? What makes them
better than us? Could we learn anything from them?... Lots of useful
recommendations could come from our competitors.

2. Explain detail your most possible recommendation

- As the resource will be limited and we can not do anything we want at the same
time, there should be a priority, explain why you think this option is the best for
the company, and why the other is the 2nd….
- In this part, try to compare these recommendations consistently. The criteria
you choose to compare should be aligned between options.
- Ex:
- Bad
- - Benefit - Cost
- Option A - 200M profit - 50M cost
- 30M new users - Possibility of losing
employee
- Option B - High awareness - Competitive market
- Increase bundle - Cannibalization
sales
- Good
- - Benefit - Cost
- Option A - 200M profit - 50M cost
- 30M new users - Possibility of losing
employee
- Option B - 300M profit - 100M cost
- 50M new users - Turnover rate
increase

- Note:
⚫ It is not required for all the criteria to be the same, but it should be aligned a bit.
3. Explain why these recommendations could address those challenges mentioned on
the 1st page.
4. Timeline
As I mentioned, because we can’t implement all the recommendations at once, they
should be prioritized. Which one could be done first, why. Which one could wait or
which one should be done immediately. Solution for short-term, midterm and long-
term periods.

⚫ How to make part 3 and part 4 better?

- You need to identify the best competitive advance of the company and what is
the target customers/main customers/the segment that the company wants to
focus on…, how to utilize it with our recommendation.
- What is the pain point of the company, which one are they afraid of the most,
is there any core problem? The recommendation that addresses the core
problems should be done first.
III/ Conclusion/Wrap-up
BIG NOTES.
- The most important thing in analyzing cases is the consistency and the
logical structure. For every recommendation or solution, it will be better
if you can prove it with real data, numbers, graphs, pictures,… Anything
that explains better than words only.
- Besides data, some theory or academic model could also help you to
make your plan more rationale and professional. Here are some basic
theories that I recommend.

⚫ Product/Customer cycle
