The Rogers Park Neighborhood Choir, under conductor Elisabeth Baker, is one of Chicago Children’s Choir’s 11 after-
school Neighborhood Choir Programs. These programs provide beginning and intermediate choral training to over 900
children throughout the city while building community pride and stewardship in each singer. Members of the Rogers
Park Neighborhood Choir range in age from 8-16 and rehearse twice weekly. Select singers have recently performed in
Dead Man Walking at Lyric Opera of Chicago and Bernstein’s MASS at Ravinia Festival. Recent tours have included New
Orleans, Grand Rapids and St. Louis.
DiMension, under conductors Judy Hanson and Mark Myers, is a unique ensemble for young men with changing
or changed voices, including those in late elementary, middle, and into high school. This ensemble offers many
performance opportunities independently and with Neighborhood Choirs and Voice of Chicago. Recent tours have
included Alabama, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
About Judy Hanson,
Senior Associate Artistic Director
In her 21st year on staff with Chicago Children’s Choir, Judy Hanson
collaborates with the Artistic Director to create the artistic vision for the
overall organization and co-direct the world-renowned Voice of Chicago.
She serves as stage director and one of the choreographers, and co-
directs select ensembles within this group including Encore Groove,
which she developed to perform more difficult choreography. In 2006,
Ms. Hanson received a Jeff Award nomination (Choral Choreography) for
Chicago Children’s Choir’s original world musical, Sita Ram. In addition to
her work with Voice of Chicago and the organization’s artistic initiatives,
Ms. Hanson works her magic with all 5,200 singers in special CCC events
such as the Black History Month Concert Series and Paint the Town Red.
With over 30 years of experience working with middle school singers,
Ms. Hanson is a master teacher at this level. At CCC, she formulated the
model for the young male ensemble DiMension, which is a group that
specifically guides singers with voices changing to the lower register.
Under her leadership, this choir has grown to over 50 members. Due to
Ms. Hanson’s expertise in this area, she has presented many sessions at
colleges and universities on the topic of middle school choral music.
A nationally known clinician, adjudicator and conductor, Ms. Hanson
has conducted middle school and high school honor choirs throughout
the United States at American Choral Directors Association (ACDA)
individual chapters and division conventions, choral festivals and at
Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM). She has judged many national show
choir competitions and has been a clinician at Show Choir Camps of
America for 27 years.
Ms. Hanson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from
the University of Illinois and a Master of Music degree in Music Education
from Northwestern University. In 1993, Ms. Hanson received the Golden
Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching—an award given each year to 10
outstanding Chicago area teachers. From 1985 through 2001, Ms. Hanson
was the Director of Vocal Music at Eisenhower Junior High School in
Darien, IL, where she was the conductor for six choirs and produced
eight musicals. Eisenhower choirs performed at the 1996 Illinois ACDA
Fall Convention, at Walt Disney World Resort, and were selected on
three separate occasions for the Chicago production of Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Donny Osmond.
About Mark Myers,
Associate Artistic Director
Mark Myers is a nationally renowned choral conductor, music educator and
arranger. Mark recently completed coursework toward the Doctor of Musical
Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of California, Los Angeles,
while maintaining a busy travel schedule as a guest conductor, clinician
and adjudicator for high school and middle school concert choirs and show
choirs throughout the United States.

Mark began his teaching career as the first choral conductor at The Choir
Academy of Chicago Children’s Choir, a Chicago Public Schools charter
school on the south side of the city focused on choral music education. As
a new teacher, Mark was able to build a successful choral program from
the ground up, serving over 200 students in five different vocal ensembles.
The auditioned Treble Choir performed for high profile events across the city and was featured on each
of Chicago’s four major television stations in addition to national broadcasts of CBS Sunday Morning and
National Public Radio.

Mark went on to teach choral music and music theory for twelve years at Waubonsie Valley High School,
serving a diverse student population from the western Chicago suburbs of Aurora and Naperville, Illinois.
During his tenure at WVHS, the music department was recognized on five occasions as a Grammy Foundation
Signature School and twice as a Gold Signature School. Mark helped to develop a large and inclusive program
of traditional concert choirs and chamber ensembles, pop a cappella groups, a 135-voice all school unity
chorus, and nationally recognized show choirs. He was awarded the Most Influential Educator Award from
Waubonsie Valley High School and Indian Prairie School District 204 nine out of his twelve years in the district
and was also also recognized by the district’s Parent Diversity Advisory Council as an Equity Champion.

Under his direction, WVHS vocal ensembles performed across the globe, from New York City to Los Angeles
and Australia to South Africa in venues including the House of Blues in both Chicago and Los Angeles, the
Sydney Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco and Chicago’s Orchestra Hall at Symphony
Center. The choirs also collaborated with a number of professional artists and ensembles, including Vusi
Mahlasela, Sowah Mensah, Kirk Whalum, Anders Åstrand, Dolora Zajick, the Native Jazz Quartet, Chanticleer
and the Chicago Sinfonietta.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where
he was named the Outstanding Music Major, and a Master of Music in Music Education from Northwestern
University, where he was the Program Honors recipient in Music Education. He will complete his Doctor of
Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from UCLA in June 2020.

$10,000 funds an In-School Program for one year. You have
the opportunity to bring music education free of charge to
students at one city school, meet their principal, and attend
their concert.

$5,000 funds one Connection Day, a special workshop that

brings together CCC students from different neighborhoods
to learn new music and choreography while forging
meaningful bonds with their CCC peers.

$2,500 funds an international tour scholarship, creating

the opportunity for a CCC singer to experience the
transformative power of travel and become an ambassador
of our city and mission.

$1,000 allows CCC to subsidize tuition for one

Neighborhood Choir singer from a low-income household.
You have the opportunity to give that student access to
a safe, nurturing after-school environment in their own
community.

$500 funds one bus trip for 50 singers to special

performance opportunities with collaborators like Ravinia
Festival and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. You have the
opportunity to make participation in special projects with
world-class artists possible for all students by removing the
transportation barrier.

$250 funds a complete uniform set for one Neighborhood

Choir singer. You have the opportunity to bring the sense of
pride and belonging that comes with wearing a CCC uniform
to a singer who otherwise could not afford it.

$100 funds one binder of music for a Voice of Chicago

singer. You have the opportunity to introduce that singer
to music in over 37 languages and from a wide range of
cultures, genres, and time periods.
Chicago Children’s Choir gratefully recognizes the cumulative
support of generous individuals and institutions who have
advanced CCC’s Raising Voices Campaign, a 3-year, $12 million
fundraising initiative to elevate the voices of Chicago’s youth.
