1 INTRODUCTION
Element Materials Technology Amsterdam B.V. (Element Amsterdam) was requested by SB
Goldstar bv to conduct a salt spray test according to ASTM B117-11 on three coated aluminum
panels (75 x 150mm). The panels were coated with Finguard Silver SB and marked FG-XT-2K.
The results and conclusions given in this report are applicable to the investigated objects only and
are based on the referred information. This report contains no appendices.

2 RESULTS
The salt spray test was conducted according to ASTM B117-11 for a period of 11,000 hours. The
panels were positioned at an angle of 15° from the vertical. In figures 1 up to and including 5 the
samples are depicted before, at intermediate inspections and after the test.
After the test the samples were gently washed in running tap water and visually inspected. Some
blistering developed on one of the samples (nr.-2). On the surface of the samples (area with no
blisters, edge, scratches) some aluminum corrosion products, originating from both the coating
pigment and some very limited corrosion in the panels (figures 6 and 7), were present.

3 CONCLUSION
The Finguard Silver SB coating provided a relative good protection of aluminum panels in an
extreme long salt spray test (11,000 hours) according to ASTM B117-11.
