Answer the following:
1.Why does a democratic country need a constitution?
Ans.
i. It lays out the important guidelines that govern decision making within
the various societies of the country.
ii. It lays out certain ideals that form the basis of the kind of country that
we as citizens aspire to live in.
iii. It provides a set of rules and principles on how people want their
country to be governed.
iv. It provides rules to safeguard the interests of minorities and prevent
them from being dominated by the majority.It tells us the fundamental
nature of our society.
v. It also provides certain fundamental rights to its citizens and protects
their freedom.
2.The people of Nepal did not want to continue with the constitution of
1990.Why?
Ans.
i. The Constitution of Nepal, which had been adopted in 1990, stated that
the final authority rested with the King.
ii. A people’s movement in Nepal fought for several decades to establish
democracy and in 2006 they finally succeeded in putting an end to the
powers of the King.
