a) Solve the following quadratic equation by using the Quadratic Formula: 2

Question 4

a) The velocity of a moving body is 12𝑡 3 − 10 metres per second after a time of 𝑡 3
seconds. Find the displacement of the body at the end of 4 seconds.

b) Mei has two baskets. Basket A contains 7 white socks and 5 grey socks. Basket
B contains 2 white socks and 8 grey socks.
Mei takes one sock from Basket A and one sock from Basket B.

i) Draw a probability tree diagram to show this information and all the possible 8
outcomes.

ii) Use your tree diagram to find out the probability that one white sock and one 2
grey sock are selected in any order.

iii) Use your tree diagram to find out the probability that both socks selected are 2
the same colour.

iv) Use your tree diagram to find the probability that at least one white sock is 2
selected.

c) You are given a box containing 9 books. How many ways can you arrange 3 of 3
them on a shelf?
