I. Introduction
According to the Business Mirror, there is a rapid rate of biodiversity loss in the Philippines. This loss is attributed to forest
degradation caused by human activities, including agriculture, mining, logging, timber poaching and wildlife trafficking.
The massive destruction of coastal and marine environment because of unsustainable fishing practices and pollution
aggravates the situation and paints a dim picture of the future of the Philippine economy. 1.
