Regular verbs
Regular English verbs create the past simple and past participle by adding “-ed” to the
base form.

If the verb ends in a consonant and “-y” we change the “-y” it to an “-i” and add “-ed”.

If a verb ends in “-e”, we just add “-d”.

Irregular verbs
The are those who have no rulers.
Verbs that have the same basic form, simple past and past participle;
Verbs that have the same in past simple and past participle, but no in base form;

Verbs that have the same base form and past participle, but no in past simple;

Verbs that have a base form, past simple and different past participle;

Simple past: Negative and interrogative

To form negative and interrogative sentences in the past simple, we have to use the
past tense of the auxiliary verb “do”, that is, “did”, and then we put the verb in the
infinitive. It does not matter if the verb is regular or irregular, since all verbs use the
auxiliary did and the infinitive, we do not use the past simple. For example:
● I did not complete the task.
● When did Carla come back?

Negative examples: Yes / no questions

● They didn’t go to work yesterday.
● I didn’t walk home last night.
● They didn’t listen to me at the last class.
