Topic 51: Name some changes in the role of men and women in our modern life.

It can never be denied that the development of the society, and advances in globalization as well
as feminism have resulted in radical changes in the role of men and women in our modern life.
Firstly, the social roles of women have been changed dramatically. Whereas in the past, females
had to stay at home to take care of their families, and hardly had the right to have a job, it is not
uncommon that most women nowadays can apply for stable well-paid occupations and be
financially independent. They are even in charge of important positions which used to be
intended for men such as government officials and chief executive officers. Secondly, males also
play a different part compared to the former time. They now understand that it is unfair to leave
all the housework for females and it is also their responsibility to look after their home, raise the
children and assist women as much as possible. In reality, many fathers in the world have made
decissions to be a stay-at-home dads or work flexitime so that their partners can reduce stress
from work and family and eventually create a peaceful, harmonic atmosphere in the family. Men
are now no longer necessarily the breadwinners of families. In short, many big changes have
happened in the roles of both men and women in modern society.
