Who we are
We are the EU Agency supporting EU Member States and promoting, coordinating, and developing European
border management in line with the EU fundamental rights charter. Watch this video to learn more about what
we do and how we do it.
We are developing Europe’s first uniformed service – European standing corps who are assisting Member States
and contribute to ensuring safe, secure and well-functioning external borders of the EU and of the Schengen
area.
Am I eligible to apply?
1. I possess a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma and at least nine (9) years of proven full-
time professional experience acquired after the respective diploma was awarded;

or
2. I possess a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and
appropriate3 professional experience of at least twelve (12) years.
Only qualifications that have been awarded in EU Member States or that are subject to the equivalence
certificates issued by the authorities in EU Member States shall be taken into consideration. Only the required
education will be considered.
Any given period of studies or professional experience may be counted only once. In order to be calculated as
eligible, years of studies or professional experience to be taken into account shall not overlap with other
periods of studies or professional experience, e.g. if the candidate had a fulltime job and did freelance
consultancy work in the evenings and weekends, the days spent on the latter will not be added to the period).
In case of part-time work, the professional experience will be calculated pro-rata in line with the workload
stated by the candidate. Compulsory military service or equivalent civilian service accomplished after achieving
the minimum qualification shall be taken into consideration as professional experience if the official
documentation is provided.
Any candidate must also meet all the following requirements on the closing date for applications:
Be a citizen of a Member State of the European Union or of a Schengen Associated country4 and enjoy
full rights as its citizen;
Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the laws of that country of citizenship concerning military
service;
Produce evidence of a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the European Union and of
satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Union. As the working language of Frontex
is English, candidates will need to prove their very good linguistic skills in English.
Perform basic and intermediate level border and migration management tasks, such as: border checks,
border surveillance including border patrols, screening, fingerprinting and registration of migrants,
gathering information, document, identity, and vehicle checks, preventing and combating cross-border
crime;
Perform return-related tasks at all stages of the return process as a member of a team in more complex
situations;
Operate the Agency’s own technical equipment;
Use European Union databases related to border checks and surveillance;
Identify and provide support to children, vulnerable groups, and persons in need of international
protection;
Assist in the coordination of logistics and manage the supply chain in operational activities.
Support team leaders in coordinating teams’ activities and tasks as required.
Some of these main tasks may require the use of force and weapons in accordance with the national law of the
host Member State, in the presence of border or coast guards of the host Member State. Such use shall comply
with the principles of necessity, proportionality, and precaution.

Results of tests (assessing the same competencies in the same manner) taken by a candidate within last 9 months
in another recruitment procedure with Frontex will be considered as valid for the purpose of assessment of the
competencies within this recruitment procedure and candidates will not be required to retake those test again.
Advantageous criteria:

Pehlewani), Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Somali and Tigrinya, Russian;
16. Experience of at least 1 year in one or more of the following tasks:
o Surveillance (e.g. operational media monitoring, aerial o Information and intelligence handling;

17. Possession of a valid permit, licence, or authorization to carry and use firearm issued in accordance with
Member State’s national law;
18. Possession of a valid license, authorization or certificate to coach/train or test/assess candidates or
personnel in any of the law enforcement competencies (e.g. licensed instructor).
Recruited newcomers are expected to agree to receive recommended (and certified) vaccinations within the
provision of preventive occupational safety measures and of public health.
Will I be trained?
Frontex will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and competencies you will need to contribute to Frontex
mission of ensuring, together with the EU Member States, secure, safe, and well-functioning external borders.
Your training will be a full-time extensive basic border and coast guard training including familiarisation in the
field, having a duration of about 6 months. It will take place in one or more training institutions across EU
Member States/Schengen Associated countries.
The training is fully organised and run by Frontex. The programme for the firstly engaged group of candidates is
envisaged to take place mostly in the second half of 2022. The working language is English, all elements of the
training programme, such as the training material, lectures, and tests will be conducted in English.
The training will provide you with the necessary theoretical and practical competencies, including in relation to
violence prevention and justified, measured use of force, that will enable you to enforce the provisions of the
Schengen Borders Code, with full respect of fundamental rights and EU and Frontex values in all your actions.
The candidates' contract of employment will be confirmed only after successfully passing the training
assessments by the end of probationary period. Details of the assessments will be provided at the beginning of
the training. After your basic training, you will follow specialised training and, as part of your personal
development and fostering a career within the European Border and Coast Guard standing corps, you may receive
additional training which may cover, among other areas:

• Border surveillance;
• Coast Guard function activities;
• Countering different types of cross-border crime;
• Return-related activities.
European Border and Coast Guard Officers may be required to work in shifts (various patterns can be applied,
e.g. 24/7, 2 shifts 12 hours each, 3 shifts 8 hours each). This may include working at night and often in
challenging and harsh weather conditions. Subject to operational needs, they may also be requested to remain
on stand-by and called to perform operational tasks should such a need occur at a short notice.
A mid-term review may be provided to assess progress and suitability of newcomers to perform the duties. It
will be assessed by specific tests in view of the objectives covered by the specific and mandatory European
Border and Coast Guard Officers’ training programme (as described in point 6 above). Upon completion, various
modules of the programme will be assessed by exams. Acquired knowledge, skills, responsibility, autonomy, and
attitude will be assessed against the requirements of the European Border and Coast Guard Officers’ training
programme. Fundamental Rights competences are horizontally integrated in all chapters throughout the entire
programme.
During the training, there will be also aptitude tests which will be used to assess your ability to perform duties
with executive powers.
Failure to successfully complete the European Border and Coast Guard Officers’ training programme may result
in unsuccessful completion of the probationary period and a dismissal.
What we offer
Frontex is based in Warsaw, Poland.
We offer a five-year contract of employment to the selected candidates with a probationary period of nine
months. The contract may be renewed only once. There is no possibility for an indefinite contract.
Basic net (payable) salary at the temporary staff AST4 level starts from 11,026 PLN (2,469 EUR) up to 11,444 PLN
(2,562 EUR), depending of the years of relevant professional experience. The basic salary may be supplemented
with household and expatriation allowances or other allowances depending on your personal situation8. The
remuneration of the staff members, the correction coefficient applicable for Poland and the exchange rate are
updated annually before the end of each year, with retroactive effect from 1 July.
The gross amounts for shift allowance are from 432 EUR up to 972 EUR per month and for standby duty the
allowance is 2 EUR per hour during weekday and 4 EUR per hour during weekends/public holidays.
Staff pays an EU tax at source and deductions are also made for medical insurance, pension, and unemployment
insurance. EU remuneration is exempt from all national taxes.
Our package of benefits also includes: Sickness and medical insurance, a competitive EU pension scheme,
package of special leaves, reimbursement for sports and fitness club memberships, Warsaw public transport

card, language classes, and an assistance from the expatriate services team. Find out more about benefits at

An accredited European School9 will operate in Warsaw as of September 2021 to allow dependent children of
all Frontex statutory staff (including Polish nationals) to attend a (tuition-free) European-type multilingual
education. The school is opening gradually, and the complete education cycle (from Nursery to Secondary level
finishing with the European Baccalaureate exam) will be available in September 2024.
Moreover, the headquarters agreement with the Polish authorities is effective as of 1 November 2017. Under
this agreement the Polish authorities may provide the following main benefits to Frontex expatriate staff10:
(a) in case the appropriate education level is not available yet for a child in the accredited European School
in Warsaw - reimbursement of tuition cost of each dependent child attending a fee-paying school (up to
and including secondary school) on Polish territory up to a limit of 35,000 PLN per school year;
(b) reimbursement of VAT on purchases of main household effects to assist a newcomer to settle in Warsaw;
(c) reimbursement of VAT on a purchase of a private car (this entitlement is renewable after 36 months).
All other received applications (up to the published deadline) will be processed by Frontex later in 2022.

ANNEX I
Recruitment procedure
Important Note: This recruitment procedure is expected to attract substantial number of applications. Once
the number of eligible applications exceeds 1,200, the processing of applications may be divided in batches
(following the order of their submission). We recommend that you apply as early as possible. Each candidate
will have an equal chance to be considered for a placement on a list of candidates (following the procedure
described below). However, only the applications submitted within the first batch may be considered for
an engagement in the second quarter of 2022. The recruitment procedure will be conducted in English and
will include the following steps (processing of applications will start in late 2021):
1. Grouping applications into batches of 1,200 eligible applications (according to the order of their
submission). Each batch will be processed as described below. While processing the applications,
Frontex may assess/score certain selection criteria jointly, and some criteria may be assessed/scored
in two or more steps of the recruitment procedure. Order of tests or assessments may change in order
to ensure efficient processing of large number of applications. Candidates who do not meet any of the
essential professional or personal competencies (or who will not pass respective tests) will be excluded
from further assessments.
2. Applications submitted within the deadline will be assessed with regards to general eligibility
requirements as described in point 3 of the Recruitment Notice based on declarations made by
candidates. Only the first application submitted by a candidate will be considered as valid (do not send
incomplete applications). In case you encounter technical challenges because of unavailability of
Frontex’ application online portal, you need to send without delay an email to
AST4StandingCorps@frontex.europa.eu including proof of the reported technical issue (full-screen
screenshot) and your completed application.
3. Applications which are deemed eligible will be processed to a next phase including:
an online English language test (threshold set up at B2 level in accordance with the selection
criteria). The English language test will be conducted with the support of an external contractor.
You will need a computer or smart device (tablet or phone) connected to the Internet with
functional front-facing camera, headphones (for the Listening exam), and microphone (for the
Speaking exam). The test will be recorded by your camera/microphone during its entire duration
(you must ensure that you will have suitable conditions to take the test);
online test(s)1;
submission of evidence of meeting the selection criteria 4.a) and 4.b)2, 5, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18 as
described in point 5 of the Recruitment Notice.
Note: Results of tests (assessing the same competencies in the same manner) taken by a candidate within
last 9 months in another recruitment procedure with Frontex will be considered as valid for the purpose
of assessment of the competencies within this recruitment procedure and candidates will not be required
to retake those tests again.
4. The Selection Committee(s), also using the outcomes of previous tests, will examine the competencies
of the candidates. The applications will be ranked according to merits displayed by the candidates in
order of points received.
5. The Selection Committee(s) will carry out an online interview with up to 700 top-scoring candidates.
In exceptional circumstances, an additional interview with another relevant manager may be arranged
before the Executive Director takes the final decision on establishment of list of candidates. Inclusion
in the list of candidates does not guarantee an employment offer from Frontex.
Pre-engagement (selection) procedure aimed to fill up to 200 new posts of new European Border and Coast
Guard Officers at intermediate level:
The most suitable candidates will be invited for online psychological assessment, for physical aptitude
tests in Warsaw, and for pre-employment medical check-up in Warsaw (more details in ANNEX II).
Only candidates that have successfully passed all these examinations will be considered for a possible
engagement.
The selected candidate(s) will be required to make a declaration of commitment to act independently
in EU interests and to make a declaration in relation to interests that might be considered prejudicial
to his/her independence.
The work and deliberations of the Selection Committee are strictly confidential and any direct or indirect
contact of a candidate with its members in view of the recruitment procedure is absolutely forbidden.
Candidates may be requested to present, at any stage of the recruitment, documents which will support the
information contained in their application form such as originals of their diploma(s) or certificates, evidence
of professional experience clearly indicating the starting, finishing dates and scope of work and workload.
Failure to provide such an evidence may lead to disqualification of the respective part of the application.
Frontex requires appointed candidates to undergo a vetting procedure to be executed by respective National
Security Authority of the candidates’ state of citizenship to obtain a personnel security clearance. The level
of the latter depends on the specific post/position. The required level of clearance is specified on the title
page of the Recruitment Notice. Candidates who currently hold a valid personnel security clearance at the
above-mentioned level (or higher) may not need to obtain a new one, pending confirmation from their
respective National Security Authority. The National Security Authority of the candidate shall provide Frontex,
with an opinion or a personnel security clearance in accordance with relevant national legislation. In case
selected candidates do not currently hold a valid security clearance at the above-mentioned level, Frontex
will request such from the National Security Authority of the candidates’ state of citizenship. In case of a
failure to obtain the required personnel security clearance or if the National Security Agency issues a negative
opinion at the above-mentioned level after the signature of the contract of employment Frontex has the right
to terminate the contract of employment.
As an active member of the standing corps, recruited newcomers are expected to agree to receive
recommended (and certified) vaccinations within the provision of preventive occupational safety measures
and of public health.

The complaint must be lodged within three months. The time limit for initiating this type of procedure starts
to run from the time the candidate is notified of the act adversely affecting him/her.

Before starting physical aptitude testing in Warsaw, each candidate must present the medical certificate
stating lack of the obstacle to undergo physical exercise issued by general practitioner (can be obtained in
any medical centre).
2. A Tecumseh test assessing cardiovascular fitness will be carried out in Warsaw using a 20 cm high stepper
with the metronome tuned to a dull 92 fluctuations per minute – the candidate will perform ascending

Frontex applies zero-tolerance policy in view of use of narcotics or of other illegal substances by its staff and
candidates.

provided next to the Reference Number of the post/position. This digital application form is specifically
created only for this recruitment procedure (and shall not be reused for another procedure).

In case you have technical issues with filling/saving/uploading your electronic application form, you
may write to us (in advance of the closing date for submission of applications) at

In case you submit more than one application for this procedure, Frontex will only assess the first one and will
automatically disregard all your other applications.
If at any stage of the recruitment procedure it is established that any of the requested information provided
by a candidate is false or misleading, the applicant in question will be disqualified.
Candidates considered for engagement will be requested to supply documentary evidence in support of the
statements made in the application. Do not, however, attach any supporting or supplementary documentation
with your application until you have been asked to do so by Frontex.
Incomplete applications, applications uploaded after the deadline, sent by e-mail or applications using
