 The Seabin
The Seabin is an innovative technology that is used for sustainable stability of the oceans.
It is a small floating bin that floats in the ocean, it contains a catch bag that catches all types of
floating pollutants with a submersible pump that is used to suck out water from the bottom once
the water has been cleaned. The bin needs to be cleaned only once a month and is a life changing
invention for the whole world. The Seabin was actually invented by two surfers who wanted to
clean the ocean and make it clean once again. The two inventors are Andrew Turton and Pete
Ceglinski.[ CITATION Int \l 1033 ]
The main target of the Seabin Project is to provide a clean and safe environment for the
sea creatures and the people who live all around it. It mainly aims to suck in all debris and
pollutants like bottles, papers, straws and other pollutants. So that the water can be free of all
these things that is causing pollution in the water. The main feature if this product is that there is
a plastic microfiber that is used to separate clean water from the pollutants. The main problem it
is trying to solve is that many of us are throwing waste into the water and not taking any
initiative to clean it ourselves. Therefore, the Seabin project has taken it into their hands to clean
the oceans and make it a safe environment for the creatures to live in. Currently the company is
trying to take initiatives to clean the ocean-oriented cities and are looking for investors for
funding. Many companies have already started investing in the Seabin project like Booking.com
for promoting their product and in fixing the polluted oceans.[ CITATION Sea \l 1033 ]
Some of the main problems that the company is facing is a controversy that the company
is using plastic to reduce plastic pollution. Therefore, the company said that it is using plastic as
a means to reduce waste plastic and that they are using recyclable plastic and not plastic that
might harm the ecosystem. The company has also taken the initiative to open educational
systems mainly to educate children and other people who are interested to decrease ocean
pollution.
According to an article posted by the website eco-business.com, the heading was “The
Seabin won’t swallow Asia’s plastic pollution problem—but it’s a start,” in this article we learn
that the Seabin project’s first stop in Asia is Singapore. Here we also learn that the Seabin’s
attempts are successful and they have acquired a lot of orders and as said by Pete Ceglinski, “The
challenge now is how to meet this demand.” Ceglinski also said in the article “The plastic crisis
is very new. No one really knows just how damaging microplastics will be for our oceans, and
for us,”[ CITATION Eco \l 1033 ] According to another article posted by cnet.com, they said
“Seabins want to be the garbage cans of the ocean. To combat the plastics and other trash piling
up in the ocean, Seabin Project is working to install hundreds of its floating garbage cans at
marinas and ports around the world.” This tells us that the Seabin is quite successful in its
attempts to clean the oceans and has raised awareness all around the world. [ CITATION Cne \l

To conclude, we can say that the Seabin is an innovative technology that is contributing
to environmental sustainability. In a busy world like today everyone is busy with their own work
and only some people are worried with the environment. The Seabin project has raised a lot of
awareness to the society and is appreciable for the task it is doing. However, this product is not
being used worldwide as it is relatively new and many people would try to vote against it as
many people would say “it is acting like a poison to kill another poison.” Some changes that can
be made to the product as like they can reduce the use of plastic and make the product for cost
effective and affordable as a result more people would be able to access the product. Another
change that can be made is upgrading it for the long run by increasing its size and also encourage
people to not through things like straws, bottles, etc. in the oceans to decrease the pollution.
Moreover, the government of countries can take initiatives to promote the product by bringing it
into their county and encourage others to do the same especially in poorer countries where
pollution is a huge factor. As a result, the people of the county can live a healthy life with a fresh
environment full of fresh air and live in peace and harmony.
