1. Introduction:

Smoking is a cause of preventable ill-health. It has been proved medically that


smoking has a potential for fatal as well as chronic diseases ,affecting not only
smokers but also non-smokers through passive smoking. It also has significant
adverse effects on a developing foetus as well as on children. Looking to these life-
threatening consequences of smoking, the Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital seeks to
rededicate itself to the commitment of safeguard- ing as also improving the health of
its staff members, patients and visiting citizens through a proactive smoking
policy .The Hospital firmly believes that everyone including its employees, patients,
visitors and people connected with its varied services , has a right to have a safe,
smoke-free and healthful environment in all its precincts.

The smoking policy of the Hospital , therefore, proposes to establish and maintain a
smoke- free environment for all in conformity with the provisions of the Act laying
down the government policy on smoking for workplaces. It will also offer support
to those who wish to quit smoking.

2 Purpose:

To set forth the policy mandating Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital a


“Smoke Free” Facility.

3. Scope:

The policy is applicable to all staff members, patients, visitors ,persons of all types
occupying or using the Hospital premises and compound., and connected in any
manner with any of its services, activities , programmes ,etc. Irrespective of age, sex,
cast , creed, religion, professions etc.

4 Policy:

Yashoda Super speciality Hospital shall prohibit the store, sale and use of
smoking materials throughout the facility.

5. Signage:

Appropriate signage’s declaring that the Hospital pursues a no-smoking Signage’s


must be displayed on all the entrances, exits , compound walls , walls of the waiting
halls and at vantage spots in the precincts in full View.

6. Penalty:
Acts of violation of the policy on smoking shall result in appropriate punitive action
which may consist of a fine in cash and/or disciplinary steps against an erring
employee.
