Although their history with gender equality is rough, Mexico is first in ranking. Mexico is
ranked at number one because they have several laws and policies that pertain to the equal
treatment of women in their country. One of these policies includes the General Act on
Equality between Women and Men. This policy was created to establish a connection
between the federal and the state level in the creation of policies and legal provisions in
relation to gender equality. In a close second is Great Britain. In Great Britain, sexism or
gender inequality indicates the differences between individuals because of their gender . The
topic of gender inequality covers a variety of concerns from education to equal opportunity in
terms of employment and wages. A variety of acts, laws and policies, such as the the Sex
Discrimination Act of 1975, the Sex Discrimination (Election Candidates) Act 2002, The Equal
Pay Act of 1970, and the equality Acts of 2006 and 2010, have proven that gender equaity is
important to legislation. Next up, China. Ranked at 68.3 according to cfr.org, China lacks in
providing women with incentives to work and women being able to build credit. They are
mediocre at women being able to get a job and go to court, and protecting women from
violence. They earn their number 3 ranking because they do not lack in women accessing
institutions and using property. In fourth is Nigeria . Nigeria is ranked at a 67.4 because they
lack in women being able to build credit, women being able to get a job, and providing
women with incentives to work. They are mediocre at protecting women from violence yet
they diligently allow women to access institutions, use property and go to court. In fifth with a
low ranking of 58.5 is Russia. Russia scores so low because they lack in many of the
individual indications . In Russia, women can not build credit at all and have a very rough
time being protected from violence, getting a job, and going to court. Although Russia does
not lack in women being provided incentives to work, women using property, and women
accessing institutions, their extremely low ranks in other categories outweigh other results .
Lastly, in 6th place, is Iran. Iran ranks at 31.2 and lacks in every single category. No
individual indicators rank above a 70% and greatly affect their score.
