Guidelines for the Preparation of UG Project Report (VIII

Semester and Design & Fabrication Project Report (VII
Semester

1. GENERAL

The project report prepared and submitted by the student is an

organized and scholarly documentation of an original work carried out
by him over a period of time. It is the basis on which the examiners
will express their opinion whether the student’s work has resulted in
the discovery of new facts or techniques as yet unknown according to
the present State of the Art and thus a definite contribution to the
advancement of knowledge.

2. SIZE OF THE PROJECT REPORT

The size of the project report should be between a maximum of 100

pages and a minimum of 40 pages of typed matter. For the Design
and Fabrication project (VII Semester) these limits will be 70 pages
and 30 pages. The count will be from first page of Chapter 1 to the
last page of the List of Publications.

3. SEQUENCE OF ARRANGEMENT OF PROJECT REPORT

The Project Report material should be arranged in the following

sequence:

1. Cover Page and Title Page (as shown in Annexure I)

2. Bonafide Certificate (as shown in Annexure II)
3. Certificate from Industry (applicable to project done at
industry)
1
4. Abstract
5. Acknowledgement
6. Table of Contents (as shown in Annexure III)
7. List of Tables
8. List of Figures
9. List of Symbols and Abbreviations as used in the relevant
discipline.
10. Chapters
11. Appendices
12. References
13. List of Publications

The actual Tables and Figures should be included at appropriate

places in the body of the Project Report.

4. PAGE DIMENSIONS AND MARGIN

The pages will be in standard A4 size (279 mm x 210 mm). Good

quality white paper of not less than 80 gsm thickness should be used.
The pages should have the following margins:

Top edge : 35 mm
Bottom edge : 30 mm
Left Side : 40 mm
Right Side : 25 mm

Tables and Figures also should conform to the margin specifications.

5. FORMAT SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE

PROJECT REPORT

5.1 Cover Page and Title Page

A specimen copy of Cover Page and Title page is shown in

Annexure I

5.2 Bonafide Certificate

The Bonafide Certificate should be typed in double line spacing

using Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 13 as per
format shown in Annexure II.
2
5.3 Abstract

This should be a brief narration in about 400 words stating the

research problem, methodology for solution and a summary of
conclusions. This should be typed in One and a half line
spacing using Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 13.

5.4 Acknowledgement

It should be brief not exceeding one page when typed in One

and a half line spacing. The student’s signature should be
affixed at the bottom right end above his name typed in
capitals.

5.5 Table of Contents

All contents except the title page, Bonafide Certificate and

Acknowledgement will find a place in the Table of Contents.
Items preceding the Table of Contents will have page numbers
in lower case Roman letters. Items following the Table of
contents will have Arabic style page numbers. One and a half
line spacing should be adopted for typing the Table of Contents.
A specimen copy of the Table of Contents is shown in
Annexure III

5.6 List of Tables

The captions in the List and in the text above the Table should
be identical. One and a half line spacing should be adopted for
the List of Tables.

5.7 List of Figures

The captions in this List and in the text below the figures
should be identical. One and a half line spacing should be
adopted for the List of Figures.

3
5.8 List of Symbols and Abbreviations

Standard symbols and abbreviations as adopted in the particular

discipline should be used. The list should be arranged
alphabetically.

5.9 Chapters

The chapters may be broadly arranged as follows:

(1) Introduction, scope and objectives of the Investigation
(2) Literature Survey
(3) Chapters developing the analytical method proposed and
computational techniques adopted.
(4) Chapters detailing the Experimental Methods developed and
Experimental Results obtained
(5) Discussion of Results including a comparison of analytical,
computational and experimental results
(6) Conclusions and Suggestions for Future Work.

Items (3) and (4) above may be divided into several chapters. Each
chapter may be further divided into several divisions and sub-
divisions. Each chapter should be given a suitable title. Tables and
Figures should be placed immediately after they are referred to in the
text.

5.10 Appendices

Appendices may be provided to give supplementary

information. They should be numbered using Arabic numerals.
Tables and Figures appearing in an Appendix should be treated
in the same manner as in the chapters. Each appendix should
have a title which will be included in the Table of Contents.

Example: Design calculations, etc.

5.11 References

Any work of other researchers which has been cited in the body
of the project work is should be listed under References.
Nothing which has not been so cited should be included under

4
References. Citation should be done in any one of the following
forms.

Examples of Citations.

1. For a detailed discussion on Bt-brinjal, see ref.1

2. The study on the effects of nanoparticles in plant science is an

emerging area of research [2- 5].

3. The study on the effects of nanoparticles in plant science is an

emerging area of research [2, 5, 7, 10-15].

4. Ramamurthy et al. [6] demonstrated the effectiveness of the

method.

The listing of References should be in the same serial order as

in the citations. A specimen copy of References is shown in
Annexure IV

5.12 List of Publications

Only those publications arising out of the investigations

reported in the project report should be included in the List of
Publications. They should be
(a) Those presented and published in Conferences with a
referee system.
(b) Those presented and published in Conferences with a
referee system.

The onus of the proof that the Journal / Conference have a

referee system rests with the student(s).

The format of the list of Publications will be same as in

References.

5
6. TYPING INSTRUCTIONS

6.1 General

One and a half line spacing should be used for typing the
general text. Font style Times New Roman and Font
Size 13 should be adopted

6.2.1 Chapters

The Chapter headings, Division headings and sub-

division headings should be as in the following example.

Chapter heading : CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION, SCOPE AND

OBJECTIVES OF THE INVESTIGATION

Division heading : 1.1 INTRODUCTION

Sub-division heading : 1.1.1 Statement of the Problem

7. NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONS

7.1 Page Numbering

All page numbers should be typed on the bottom centre. The

title page will be numbered as (i) but this should not be typed.
The page immediately following will be numbered as (ii) and
should follow the above specification. Pages of the main text
starting with Chapter 1 will be consecutively numbered using
Arabic numerals.

7.2 Numbering of Chapters, Divisions and Sub-divisions

These should be done using Arabic numerals. Decimal notation

should be used for numbering the divisions and subdivisions.
6
7.3 Numbering of Tables and Figures

Tables and Figures should bear appropriate numbers. For

example the fourth figure in Chapter 3 will be assigned the
number Fig. 3.4. Identical rules apply for Tables, say Table 2.5.
Figure 2 in Appendix 3 will be numbered as Fig. A 3.2.

7.4 Numbering of Equations

Equations appearing in each chapter or Appendix will be

numbered serially. For example the fifth equation in Chapter 3
will be numbered as (3.5) and typed as follows:

 i j,j + fi = 0 (3.5)

In the body of the project report, this equation will be referred

to as Equation (3.5).

8. BINDING SPECIFICATIONS

The project report should be bound with black Calico cloth and using
flexible cover of thick white art paper. The cover should be printed in
black letters and the text for printing should be identical to what has been
prescribed for the title page.
