Reader’s Response 2: Part 1— The Gods, The Creation, and The Earliest Heroes

The creation, the birth, something that is extra ordinary, dreams of every human I may say.
As I strongly believe that it encompasses immeasurable love, appreciation, respect and an essence
of a being. However, that is not always the case. Family argues with each other, parents to their
children, siblings to their siblings, fighting for power, authority and fame. Present not only in
Greek Mythology but in real life as well.

On the other hand, something good may result from astray. Like Cronus, Saturn in Roman,
said to be the youngest and the most violent of the Titans. Son of Uranius and Gaia. He conspired
with his mother to castrate and kill his own father, Uranius. Even worst was he ate his own children
to his wife Rhea in order to assure himself that no one amongst his children would do the same
thing as he did to his father. Obviously, afraid of his own monster. Even now a days I am seeing
people, afraid of their own monster. Monster, I mean something astray we have done in the past
that we are trying hard, not in any way cross our paths again. Karma, in deed.

In my case, lesson learned. I have accepted the fact that some time in the future, I may
encounter again the monster I have created in my past. So, I have my self-ready for whatever
consequence it may cause me but never do another mistake that soon may turn to monster, just like
what Cronus did. Despite of his given evilness, having children did not changed him. Knowing a
lot of people who have changed when bestowed with children, from being bad, having vices like
liquor, cigarette, spending more time with peers to a loving and caring parent. No matter how bad
their children may become, parents will always be parents because of their immeasurable love.

However, not all appreciate the gift of having children, some need something extreme
experience to make them realize and change for the better. I guess that is what had happened to
Cronus. When he was dethroned by his son Zeus, Jupiter in Roman. He fled to Italy and brought
in the Golden Age. A time of perfect peace and happiness which lasted as long as he reigned, as

I have read in the story. I can say that in this part of the story Cronus may have changed for the
better — Golden Age.

Cycle repeats itself when no one tries to alter it for the better. I understand Zeus, Jupiter
in Roman, the only child who was saved from his furious father, Cronus why he avenged to his
father. Albeit, in the Iliad, he tells his family, “I am mightiest of all. Make trial that you may
know. Fasten a rope of gold to heaven and lay hold, every god and goddess. You could not drag
down Zeus. But if I wished to drag you down, then I would.” To which I certainly not agree. To
one’s own family, in any instance one should not tell. But to other people, for me one may do
because honestly, I too, but not in words instead in action. It is essential but with limitation,
attitude and self-efficacy in deed. In Zeus’s words, I saw myself —a mirror.

Nevertheless, Zeus himself was not omnipotent or omniscient. Neither do we. Stay
humble, be respectful, give love and it will be reciprocated specially to our own kind, our family.
Despite of his wickedness, I see humanly in him, something realistic and may at some point
resembles me. The two ideas of him, the low and the high which I think we all possess. Though
he may not be a perfect father to all his children, fatherly showed with his favorite daughter, Athena.
The fact that he entrusted her his aegis, his buckler and his devastating weapon—the thunderbolt,
I could say that love, respect and appreciation is in him. For I believe that a person who shares
trust could be trusted as well. And when Demeter withdrew her blessings on earth, Zeus realized
that his brother Hades must give way. Perhaps Zeus felt the grievance of a longing mother—
Demeter, and a loving husband, his brother—Hades. Not only that, truly he cares. To cease earth’s
suffering, he did a resolution. To me, an act which prove his essence.

When there is love, respect and appreciation, good things will follow. Also, the chance to
change for the better is always there—waiting. Though at times may be late. But still, better than
never. True essence of our existence will prevail. Good equates good. Astray equates astray.
