Why do I want to be a teacher? There are few reasons why I want to be a teacher.

First, I believe in giving back to the society. Growing up with your friends in the barrio, you have shared your
dreams together, your aspirations in life. Such a young mind, yes, but dreams then are free. We may have established
ourselves apart, but when we get to spend time together, we always look back and we always remember our little
school back then.

Giving back to the society does not always mean donating a wholesome amount of money. I believe in
genuine service – CHIVALRY IS NOT DEAD.

Second, I was inspired by my teachers when I was in college, that was basically my reason, why I accepted
the offer to join the academe right after my graduation in college.

Third, I believe, it is the best way in reaching out to the different types of people, they may differ in age,
status, perceptions – but they are bound, we are all bound by one thing – eagerness to learn. When I was teaching,
my students would call me “mammey”, and I was just 21. Then I get to realized, “Oh they look up to me!” So, I slowly
connected to each and everyone of them. I invested my time and love to my students. I was not only a teacher back
then, they considered me as part of them. We are a pack.

A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to give light to others.

Realizing it now, as I am writing this essay, I started to look forward to the day when I get to stand in front of
my students, talking with those little humans who are about to face the tigers of the world. I am excited to look after
them, to guide them, to win the battles with them.

I guess I am destined to be a teacher anyway.
