Average Amount Spent on Common Pet Categories in the Past 12 Months

It is difficult to compare how much is spent by different pet species because of the wide range of
pet care categories. The following list is included to help the reader get a sense of the categories
covered in the survey, although it does not include all expenses that were reported in each
individual species report section. Based on consumer recollection of their spending in the past
12 months, it provides an approximate dollar amount. In this case, the dollar amounts in the
previous 12 months should not be added together.
