The RMU is small and compact in design, allowing it to be easily intergrated with existing grids and easy for cable connection. It offers an economical and reliable solution to network owners due to its well-designed features and low maintenance requirement. The RMU operates at temperatures from -20°C to 450°C and climatic changes dees not effect its performance. The medium of insulation used for the RMU is sulphurhexafiueride, which is widely used gas for insulation in most medium and high-voltage switchgears The RMU consists of 4 main sections : HV Compartment, Drive Mechanism, HRC Fuse Compartment, and Cable connection The RMU has been tested and conforms to the requirements of IEC 6271-200, IEC 62271-1085 IEC 60265+1, IEC 296,60694, 529 & 129 ftom the International Electrotechnical Committee {IEC} Class of IP Protection Indoor RMU The degree of protection for an indoor RMU is P42 The enclosure is made of electro-galvanized mild steel plate, with thickness of 2mm to 3mm, and coated with epoxy powder coating, to withstand rust and weather. ‘Outdoor RMU The degree of protection for an outdoor RMU is IPS4. The enclosure is made of electro-galvanized mild steel plate ‘and coated with epoxy ceating. Nor-painted parts are coated with zinc cobalt plating The coating provides good protection against high humidity and harsh weather conditions. Features of the Four Main Sections HV Compartment The HV Compartment is a gas - fight welded tank made of stainless steel, in which all live parts are assembled inside. High quality sealing rings are used within the bushings and bearing of the actuation shaft to ensure a high level of fighiness and also to avoid leaking The stainless steel actuation shaft fits within the top bearing by a special twin gasket system. The reliable ON-OFF-Earihed 3-posifion switch connects the bushing with the busbar. Special contact rivets ensure that under short circuit condition, ne welding of the contacts will occur. The complete welded tank will be evacuated within a vacuum-chamber and then filled with a very dry and pure Sfx gas. The sensitivity of the test equipment (according to IEC 56-4) is 10%em*/s and guarantees detection of even the smallest fume of gas loss. Drive Mechanism The Drive Mechanism is located above the tank fora comfortable ‘operation height. Load break switches of the fing cables and all earthing switches ‘are operated by toggle-spring drive mechanism to ensure that the switching speed is independent of the operator for both ON and ‘OFF operation. The drive mechanism of the load break switch for the tranformer feeder switch is of the stored-energy type. Drive T Mechanism The spring for the OFF operation is charged automatically by the closing spring during the ON operation. Should a fault occurs, the striker pin of the HRC fuse will tip the drive mechanism and cause it to open. Padlock facilities are available for locking each drive in ON and ‘OFF position. The Drive Mechanism compartment is covered with a front cover and indicators for the gas pressure (or pressure gauge] and switch position are mounted behind sealed clear windows with a protection degree of IP3x. All galvanized parts of the Drive Mechanism are sealed with a rive Ee aaa) ‘cobaltzink coating. HRC Fuse Compartment The HRC Fuse Compartment is located at the frent of the SF: tank, separate from the other group of comparlments. This well-ventilated location prevents over-heating and also protects the RMU from damage should there be a faulty operation of the fuse. The fuse arrangement is an encapsulated plug-in connector system and electrically, very tight and without any electrical gaps. The tripping linkage tor the striker pin operates via diaphragm in the Upper plug, ensuring that ot this point air insulation is avoided. The upper and lower plugs are made of slicone rubber tracks and are orc-prool, The lower plug incorporates a sii cable 70sq mm. on cable-sealing end for XLPE The HRC Fuse used is according to DIN 43625 standards. Selection of the HRC fuse should follow the relevant table of fuse manufacturer. The tated cument of the fuse should be at least 2 times of the transformer load, When @ linkage is being actuated by the strker pin via the diaphragm, it causes a simultaneous tipping of all 3 phases of the load break switch, If this oceuss, a red sigh at the observation window will indicate that the switch has tripped. However, the system is safe and allows a simple changing of HRC fuses. Cable connection The cables are connected at the front of the RMU to extemal conically-shaped bushings, according to- DIN 47636. There ore various types of termination to use, from recognized third-party manufacturers.fer termination. However, elbow adapter are typically to be used either the screen or non-scteened type. The type of cable that can be used is 3.core 240sq mm XLPE. The front cover of the cable connection compartment can only be removed when the earthing switch is put to ON position.
