ASIA YOUTH SUMMIT
BACKGROUND
On the 25th of September 2015 at the United
Nations (UN) Headquarters, world leaders
officially endorsed the Agenda for the Sus-
tainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030) as
a global development agreement. The SDGs’,
which contain 17 Goals and 169 Targets , are a
global action plan for the next 15 years (in
effect from 2016 to 2030), to end poverty,

reduce inequality, and protect the environment. SDGs apply to all countries (universal),
so that all countries without exception, even developed countries have a moral obliga-
tion to achieve the SDGs Goals and Targets.

However, at the end of 2019, in the Chinese province of Wuhan, a phenomenon

occurred where a virus was found which infected many people in Wuhan. The virus
then spread widely throughout the world and was declared a pandemic on March 11,
2020, by the World Health Organization. As a result, the world is experiencing a lock-
down where people cannot carry out their usual activities, changing the way humans
carry out their daily activities. The virus does not only affect daily life but, youth activi-
ties such as charities, volunteers, exchanges, etc. must also stop. Of course, this pan-
demic also disrupts the implementation of the SDGs 2030. As a result, it is predicted
that many points from the 17 SDGs will fall apart and there are concerns that they will
not be achieved in 2030.

The Asia Youth Summit (AYS) 2021 is an activity initiated by the Youth Break the Bound-
aries (YBB) Foundation. In the midst of a world that is facing a pandemic, the achieve-
ment of the SDGs 2030 target is experiencing disruption in all aspects of the world. The
AYS 2021 program aims to initiate youth around the world to provide ideas and plans
regarding how to continue to achieve the SDGs 2030 targets in other ways.

YBB is a foundation that focuses on all instruments regarding development & empow-
erment of youth to prepare excellent future leaders by promoting strong identity and
character and also noble values for the youth.
