1 BRICK MASONRY
Brick work in first class brick: Brick shall be thoroughly clean, well wetted and soaked for at least 12
hours in fresh water before being used on the work. A good bond shall be preserved throughout the
work both laterally/transversely/vertically in volleying the course and shall be perfectly horizontally
in plan. Vertical joints shall break join in the course immediately below and above, but they shall be
directly over other in alternative courses. Joints shall not exceed 10-12mm in thickness and shall be
full of mortar. No broken bricks shall be used except as a closer. English bond shall be used
throughout in walling. Whole of the masonry shall be carried up to one uniform level throughout the
structure, but where bricks are joints should be made in good long stem. All function walls
and closed walls shall be carefully bonded to main walls. During rains the work shall be carefully
covered so as to protect from being washed away. Should any mortar or jointer cement be washed
away, the work shall be removed and reworked at the contractor’s expense.
