1. What is information rate?
2. Differentiate error detection and error correction.

4. How to increase the information capacity of a communication channel?
5. Compare the Linear block codes and Convolutional codes.
6. What is coherent and non coherent detection?
7. Differentiate bit rate and baud rate.
8. What is quadrature phase shift keying?
9. What is Binary phase shift keying?
10. Draw the phasor diagram of QPSK.

11 a) Explain in detail about Binary phases shift keying and also explain the generation and

12 a) Consider a systematic block code whose parity check equation are


P1=m1+m2+m4, P2=m1+m3+m4. P3=m1+m2+m3, P4=m2+m3+m4
Where mi is the message digits and Pi are the parity digits.
1)Find the generator and parity check matrix for this code.
2) How many errors can be detected and corrected ?
3) If the received code word is 10101010 find the syndrome. (15M)

b) A rate 1/3 convolution encoder has generating vectors as g1=(1 0 0),g2=(1 1 1) and g3=(1 0 1).
i) sketch the encoder configuration
ii) Draw the code tree , State diagram and trellis diagram
iii) If input message sequence is 101010,determine the output sequence of the encoder. (15M)
